About the Role:

We’re looking for a Head of Design to lead our team of talented product designers, ensuring design is a strategic force in achieving Medallion’s business and customer impact goals. This role is not just about optimizing user experience—it’s about designing for automation/AI, efficiency, and effort reduction while ensuring experience is optimized where it truly matters.

As Head of Design, you will be responsible for ensuring Medallion’s product design function aligns not just with UI best practices, but with our broader business strategy. You will lead the full lifecycle of design, from deeply understanding customer and operational pain points to crafting workflows that drive measurable improvements in efficiency and automation. You will foster a culture of impact-driven design thinking, ensuring that Medallion prioritizes the right users and the right problems while reducing friction for all stakeholders, including healthcare admins, providers, and our own operations teams.

This role reports to the VP Product and base compensation for this role is between $180,000-$250,000 depending on location and level. In addition to base salary, Medallion offers equity, and benefits as part of the total compensation package. Many factors are considered when determining pay including: market data, geographic location, skills, qualifications, experience, and level.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure design drives business impact by reducing administrative effort and improving automation through UX improvements.
  • Help Product and Engineering prioritize the right user problems—focusing on high-impact opportunities based on deep customer & business understanding.
  • Act as a key voice in executive discussions, advocating for user insights that shape company priorities and decisions that require executive input.
  • Coach, mentor, and scale the design team, helping them build careers while driving measurable product impact.
  • Establish a culture of business-aware design thinking, ensuring designers focus on workflows, automation, and user outcomes.
  • Recruit top-tier design talent and create an environment where they can do their best work.
  • Foster seamless collaboration across Design, Product, Engineering, and Operations.
  • Ensure the team designs with automation in mind, optimizing for the outcome(s) themselves rather than existing end-user experiences.
  • Advocate for design systems that enhance efficiency, enabling rapid iteration and scalable solutions.
  • Guide the team in balancing user experience vs. eliminating effort entirely, ensuring effort is reduced wherever possible
  • Manage the design process from ideation to launch, including user research, usability testing, design systems, and iteration.
  • Establish a strong, evidence-based design practice, ensuring insights from end users and internal teams shape decision-making.
What We’re Looking For:

Experience:

  • 7+ years in Product Design, including 3+ years of design leadership experience.
  • B2B SaaS expertise, ideally in complex workflow-heavy products.
  • Proven experience shipping data workflow products that solve operational pain points.

Portfolio:

  • Strong portfolio showcasing end-to-end problem solving that highlighted business impact
  • Demonstrated success designing for enterprise users and automation-driven workflows.

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience in deep verticals like healthcare where you’ve had to develop expertise
  • Expertise in back-office or operational workflow design.
  • Experience designing for automation or AI-powered products.
  • Specialization in user research, analytics, design systems, or another strategic area.

Why Medallion?

At Medallion, design is not just about interfaces—it’s about business impact. Our platform is transforming healthcare operations, and this role ensures that design drives real, measurable outcomes. If you’re excited about leading a team that solves complex, high-value problems while scaling a world-class design function, we’d love to hear from you.
