Hardware Research Scientist, Modeling and Simulation - Redmond, WA | Remote, US

At Meta Reality Labs, our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Research Scientist to join our team, whose mission is to create the future of soft, wearable technology. We are specifically looking for a candidate with experience in modeling and optimization of energy transport across human tissues and who can work with a team of researchers who are enabling new architectures for wearables. More broadly, the chosen candidate will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.Hardware Research Scientist, Modeling and Simulation Responsibilities
  • Derive governing equations for multi-physics processes and solve the equations with analytical or numerical methods.
  • Build computational frameworks for multi-physics systems across scales.
  • Work with Research Engineers to design and build prototypes to verify models.
  • Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and designers across disciplines to solve complex problems.
  • Drive projects with internal and external partners.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Physics or equivalent Experience in deriving governing equations for mechanics problems that require multi-physics coupling.
  • Experience with numerical methods, such as finite element and finite volume.
  • Experience with a programming language, such as Python, Matlab, C or C++.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in using open-source finite element tools, such as Fenics and Deal.II.
  • Direct experience in multi-physics modeling and optimization with applications in wearable actuation and sensing research
  • Experience with reduced order models for interface mechanics
  • Experience with wearable devices
  • Basic understanding of skin mechanics, nonlinear elasticity and wave propagation through dispersive media
LocationsAbout Meta Meta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses. When Facebook launched in 2004, it changed the way people connect. Apps like Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp further empowered billions around the world. Now, Meta is moving beyond 2D screens toward immersive experiences like augmented and virtual reality to help build the next evolution in social technology. People who choose to build their careers by building with us at Meta help shape a future that will take us beyond what digital connection makes possible today—beyond the constraints of screens, the limits of distance, and even the rules of physics. Meta is committed to providing reasonable support (called accommodations) in our recruiting processes for candidates with disabilities, long term conditions, mental health conditions or sincerely held religious beliefs, or who are neurodivergent or require pregnancy-related support. If you need support, please reach out to accommodations-ext@fb.com. $117,000/year to $173,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
