Group Product Manager, API Performance and Content Syndication - New York, New York, United States

Business Insider is hiring a Group Product Manager for API Performance and Content Syndication to join our Delivery Group. This Group Product Manager will build, maintain, and optimize the backend services, systems, and infrastructure that power the storytelling on our website and beyond.

The Role & Team:

As a Group Product Manager, you will be a player/coach as this role is a combination of Individual Contributor and Manager. 

You will be the product owner dedicated to improving our content API performance, architecture, and developing products designed to engage readers on partner sites across the web. You will collaborate with business and engineering stakeholders, content management teams, and other product managers to identify opportunities for improvement of our API infrastructure and Syndication products, translating business problems into technical solutions. You will focus on how our digital products serve the needs of our audience, our clients, and our journalists. 

This role reports directly to the VP of Product and is part of the Delivery and Distribution team. It can be in-office, hybrid, or fully remote.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and align multiple product lines to meet strategic objectives, emphasizing constant value, improvement, and innovation.
  • Mentor and manage a team of Product Managers, fostering a culture of innovation and data-driven decision-making.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders to develop and maintain a cohesive product vision and roadmap.
  • Drive transparency and alignment through cross-functional communication, ensuring progress and solutions are understood across the organization.
  • Define and track key product metrics, guiding data-informed decisions and quarterly goals for effective resource allocation and strategic direction.

The Ideal Candidate Has:

  • Extensive knowledge of product management principles, theories, and frameworks, with a proven track record of applying these to manage and grow successful product lines.
  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills, with experience guiding and developing product managers towards achieving their full potential.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading product teams and managing multiple products or a portfolio of products with quantifiable success.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively articulate vision, strategy, and complex ideas to all levels of the organization, including public speaking and presentation proficiency.
  • Proficiency with modern product management, analytical, and engineering tools such as Jira, Figma, Trello, Looker, and Google Analytics or their equivalents.
  • A passion for news, media, journalism, or the relevant industry domain is a plus, contributing to a deep understanding of the audience's needs and market trends.
  • Experience working closely with Site Reliability (SRE) or Cloud Engineering teams.
  • Engineering background in backend systems is a plus, particularly with GoLang.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Salary: $155,000 - $175,000 (dependent on skills, experience, and competencies)
