Upon successful completion of our training program in Spring 2025, trainees are eligible to be hired as Group Fitness Instructors for Rec Well

Anticipated Hours Per Week:

5-10

Schedule:

5-10 hours per week, including weekends and nights. Based on semester group fitness schedule. Hours range from 6:40 AM to 8:50 PM M-F and weekends

Level one tryouts will take place at the Nicholas Recreation Center, 1-2:30pm on Sunday October 27 and 1-2:30pm on Sunday November 3. Candidates select the date they would like to attend.

If invited to the tryouts, you will take a 45-minute high intensity interval class. You will be evaluated on how well you follow cues, your form and execution, and your enthusiasm.
If selected, you will receive directions and guidance to prepare for level two tryouts.

Level two tryouts will take place at the Nicholas Recreation Center on Friday November 15. You will be assigned to an hour and a half time block between 9am – 3pm on Friday November 15. You will lead a 12-minute mini workout (warm-up, tabatas and strength/core exercises) and will be evaluated on your cueing, execution, and enthusiasm. Guidance will be provided.
If selected, you will be invited for an interview.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

$15.00-$22.50

Qualifications:

Must be a UW-Madison student studying on campus in 2025-2026.

Experience attending Rec Well group fitness classes preferred

No teaching experience necessary

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Passionate to learn about exercise and leading mind-body classes

Leadership, strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills

Enjoy working with people

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Group Fitness Instructor Trainees attend training sessions, are assigned a mentor and co-lead assigned group fitness floor classes with their mentor.

Training & Mentoring Program

We’ll teach you everything you need to know.
Attend our Orientation on Tuesday, December 3 from 7 – 9pm.
Attend our paid training sessions are on January 18-20, 2025, and selected Saturdays and Sundays during the Spring 2025 semester.
Co-lead with a current Floor instructor for two classes each week during the Spring 20 semester.

Physical Demands:

Fitness level congruent with demands of teaching group fitness floor classes
