Upon successful completion of our training program in Spring 2024, trainees are eligible to be hired as Group Fitness Instructors for Rec Well

Anticipated Hours Per Week:

5-10

Schedule:

5-10 hours per week, including weekends and nights. Based on semester group fitness schedule. Hours range from 6:40 AM to 8:50 PM M-F and weekends

Training & Mentoring Program
We’ll teach you everything you need to know.
Attend our Orientation on Tuesday December 3 from 7 – 9pm.
Attend our paid training sessions January 18-20, 2025 and selected Saturdays and Sundays during the spring 2025 semester.
Co-lead with a current Group Cycling instructor for one class each week during the Spring 2025 semester.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

$15.00-$22.50

Qualifications:

Must be a UW-Madison student studying on campus in 2025-2026.

Experience attending Rec Well group fitness classes preferred

No teaching experience necessary

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Passionate to learn about exercise and leading group cycling classes

Leadership, strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills

Enjoy working with people

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Group Cycling Instructor Trainees attend training sessions, are assigned a mentor and co-lead assigned group fitness classes with their mentor.

Level one and level two tryouts will take place at the Nicholas Recreation Center, from 3 – 5:30pm on Saturday, November 2 and 3-5:30pm on Saturday, November 9. Candidates select which date to attend.

If selected, you will take a 45-minute cycling class.  You will be evaluated on how well you follow cues, your form and execution, and your enthusiasm.
If selected, you advance to level two tryouts (held the same day, immediately after level one tryouts).
For level two tryouts, you’ll teach a 5-minute workout in the following order:  A climb (2 cycles of 20 sec seated, 20 sec standing & 20 sec standing tunnel with high resistance/low cadence) and sprints (2 cycles of a 20 sec sprint at high cadence/low resistance) with 10 sec of recovery (low cadence/ low resistance) between the sprints
You will be evaluated on your cueing, execution and enthusiasm.
If selected, you will be invited for an interview.
