We are seeking a skilled and driven Government Relations Strategist to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will collaborate with key stakeholders, practice area directors, and industry leaders to craft effective strategies that advance our organizational objectives. You will leverage your expertise in government affairs and your deep understanding of legislative processes.SUMMARY:
The Government Relations Strategist will serve as a strategic liaison between PCG, it’s Practice Area business line managers, lobbyist firms, and government entities. The focus of the role is to be a strategy advisor to the practice areas and corporate heads and a coordinator of our stable of lobbyists, working with the PA project managers and corporate heads to guide the lobbyists in disseminating information on our behalf, eliciting from them specific policy intentions of a state’s legislature/executive office that may be relevant to our current or future work, and to work with the lobbyists and Practice Area business leads to execute strategies that will support business development and/or business retention efforts. The role includes preparing, in conjunction with Practice Area principal clients/users, annual reviews of lobbyist performance and PA usage, resulting in recommendation to retain the lobbyist or not. The role includes providing expert advice and strategic thinking to Practice Area and/or corporate leaders on how to best deploy/use our lobbyist resources, and to obtain additional resources as may be necessary. Provide guidance to our lobbyists which supports PCG’s efforts to build and maintain strong relationships with government entities at the local, state, and federal levels.
There is an administrative component which includes coordinating the processing of lobbyist fees (from our lobbyist clearing house vendor) and cost allocations to PAs for their review and approval.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITY:
- Stakeholder Support: Provide guidance to our lobbyists and their Practice Area clients to cultivate and maintain relationships with government officials, agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Regulatory Monitoring: Direct and coordinate with local lobbyists to track and analyze legislation, policies, and regulations that may impact the organization’s operations.
- Communication: Coordinate with corporate communications, risk management and legal departments to prepare correspondence, briefings, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Outreach Coordination: Participate in strategy meetings, events, and engagements with PA business line leaders, lobbyists, and relevant government representatives, as required.
- Advocacy Support: Assist corporate communications and public relations advisors in drafting advocacy materials, such as position statements, policy briefs, and talking points.
- Reporting: Maintain accurate records of government relations activities and provide regular updates to leadership.
- Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams to ensure alignment of government relations efforts with organizational goals.
- Research: Conduct research on government programs, policies, and funding opportunities relevant to the organization.
- Coordinate the procurement of lobbyist consultants on behalf of business line leaders within PCG practice areas and or corporate departments
- Coordinate the financial management of lobbyist consultants including facilitation of relating invoicing and payment processing as well as allocating charges to appropriate PCG projects
- Conduct annual exit interviews with PA users (lobbyist clients) and their lobbyists to assess and report on performance relating to business retention/growth, with recommendations to retain or change the lobbyist for then upcoming fiscal year
- Other duties as assigned by the Chief Marketing Officer.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, public administration, or related field (required).
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in government relations, public affairs, or policy analysis.
- Ability to analyze policy developments and provide summaries.
- Familiarity with government processes and regulatory frameworks.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM tools.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in public administration, Law, or a related field
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Travel Requirements: Occasional travel for meetings and events with government officials.

As required by applicable law, PCG provides the following reasonable range of compensation for this role: $80,000-$100,000. In addition, PCG provides a range of benefits for this role, including medical and dental care benefits, 401k, PTO, parental leave, bereavement leave.

Compensation for roles at Public Consulting Group varies depending on a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience.
