About the Role

Sellers Dorsey is seeking a government relations professional with experience managing lobbyists and with an understanding of Medicaid policy to join our government affairs team.


This position supports Sellers Dorsey’s corporate government relations function by engaging with Medicaid consulting teams, sales directors and our national consulting practice. As a Government Relations Manager you will assist with the management of an assigned portfolio of states and state lobbyists, and with political and policy analysis and the internal distribution of policy and political intelligence. The Government Relations Manager will help grow the government affairs function internally and will help drive current and future strategies as needed at the direction of the VP of Government Relations.


Key Responsibilities

  • The primary focus of this role is to support internal consulting teams through proactive engagement, including through management of contracted state lobbyists in selected states. This role entails supporting successful collaboration and internal communications amongst different teams working within and across states.
  • The Government Relations Manager will be responsible for tracking state and federal policy developments and facilitating information sharing, analysis, and political strategy conversations internally.
  • This role will likely require some travel and participation at selected policymaker-focused conferences. Candidates should be confident in their ability to represent the firm with policymakers and coalition partners and generally support external communications efforts.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; graduate degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in state government affairs, including working with and managing lobbyists.
  • Experience in advocacy work with associations and other stakeholders required.
  • Experience managing and working in multiple states required.
  • Experience working with and managing contract lobbyists required
  • Experience with federal policy, Congress, and CMS preferred.
  • Experience with insurance, healthcare or Medicaid policy preferred but not required.

Compensation & Benefits 


The anticipated salary range for candidates is $90,000/year in our lowest geographic market range to up to $115,000/year in our highest geographic market range. The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, the type of years and experience within the industry, the candidate’s education, and the candidate’s market location. Typically, candidates are not hired near the top of the range and compensation decisions are made based upon Sellers Dorsey’s Total Compensation Policies & Guidelines. The successful candidate will also be eligible to participate in our annual Corporate Incentive Plan (CIP) that can range to up to 9% of annual salary. 


Provided they meet all eligibility requirements under the applicable plan documents, the successful candidate (and their eligible dependents) will be eligible to enroll in group healthcare plans that offer medical, dental, and vision and for insurance plans offering short term disability, long term disability, and basic life. Employees are also able to enroll in Sellers Dorsey’s 401k plan provided they meet plan requirements.  Sellers Dorsey offers a Flexible Time Off that allows employees to use what they need. Additionally, we offer 10 paid holidays throughout the calendar year, paid time off for qualifying medical leave, and up to 12 weeks of combined paid parental and bonding leave. The foregoing benefits and paid time off, including an employee’s eligibility therefore, will be controlled by applicable plan documents and Sellers Dorsey policy.
