Government Relations Intern (PAC)

Save the Children’s Government Relations department in the Policy, Advocacy and Campaigns team conducts effective policy and legislative advocacy to create positive change on key issues impacting children in the United States and around the world. Focus areas include nutrition, health, education, and protection. Our work involves engaging Congress, the administration, multilateral agencies – on our own and in coalition with partner organization.   

The PAC-GR spring intern will support the policy and advocacy work of the Government Relations Department. The internship will provide critical support to the team’s advocacy by tracking, analyzing, and contributing to the creation of advocacy products and execution of advocacy activities related to needs of children in the United States and around the world.

 

What You’ll be Doing (Essential Duties & Responsibilities)

  • Conduct policy research for the department related to U.S. government legislative or policy developments on global and domestic issues impacting children
  • Conduct research on Members of Congress to gauge potential interest in Save the Children priority issues
  • Attend congressional hearings, coalition meetings, and other meetings as needed and share notes
  • Research and write content for background briefs, talking points, fact sheets, policy briefs, and communications materials, including social media content across various issues as needed.
  • As needed, assist in preparations and execution of events, including internal and externally-facing workshops and meetings
  • Contribute to Save the Children’s advocacy efforts on budget and appropriations such as filing annual congressional request forms
  • Track legislation and upcoming hearings, as needed
  • Other duties as needed

 

    Required Qualifications  

    • Must be an actively enrolled Associate, Bachelor, Master or other post high school education program, or have graduated within 6 months of program start date
    • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English,
    • Professional proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate with individuals and teams
    • Professional proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
    • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging
