About This Role

This role will focus on supporting employee relations at Biogen. Acts as an objective partner to HR, Legal, and key business stakeholders, and works collaboratively to counsel and provide proactive, effective employee relations solutions. Drives programs and processes that facilitate education, awareness, effective employee solutions, and provides a consistent Biogen experience for all employees. The role will report into the Head of Global DE&I and People Relations.

This is a part-time role and US remote based role.

What You'll Do

  • Ensure an environment of positive employee relations by providing an exemplary employee experience in moments that matter.
  • Conduct comprehensive and detailed global investigations into alleged misconduct and/or other policy violations, consistent with Biogen’s Code of Business Conduct and Global Investigations Protocol and accounting for regional and local labor considerations.
  • Work collaboratively with HR Business Partners, Legal, and business leaders to execute investigatory recommendations.
  • Act as a trusted and credible subject matter expert on company policy, procedures, best practices, and performance management; monitor and analyze trends and legal updates to guide HRBPs and leaders on appropriate actions.
  • Effectively and confidentially consult on nuanced, complex, and sensitive issues while balancing the needs of the individual employee with the interests of the enterprise.
  • Proactively assist in developing People Relations policies for the enterprise and ensure proper education and communication of such policies as necessary.
  • Act as an integral liaison between Legal and other key corporate partners to support the defense of employment-related administrative charges and lawsuits; assist with company response to any labor activity and track all case activity.
  • Partner with and coach HRBPs and managers on performance management and manage escalated performance cases at the PIP level and beyond.
  • Lead risk review and mitigation and the operational implementation of global reductions in force, reorganizations, and position eliminations, through close partnership with HRBPs, Legal, and the business.
  • Effectively utilize conflict/issue resolution techniques to diffuse escalated situations, facilitate effective workplace relations, mitigate risk, and promote high performance.
  • Educate and train HR Partners, centers of excellence and other employees and managers on People Relations content, particularly as it relates to performance management, workforce planning, and policy violations.
  • Participate in various People Relations projects as assigned.
  • Be accountable for building a concrete understanding of Biogen’s stance and efforts around Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, as well as integrate DE&I strategies into the talent lifecycle (e.g. talent management, hiring, compensation)
  • Actively participate in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives, such as Employee Resource Groups programming, to reinforce HR’s commitment to an inclusive, engaging environment 
     

Qualifications

Who You Are

You are an independent and creative thinker who thrives in a fast paced and agile environment. You have exemplary judgment and are highly collaborative and influential with deep expertise in employee relations. You embody accountability, push back when needed, and navigate ambiguity and change with empathy. 

•    5-7 years of HR experience, with a track record of demonstrated success in Employee Relations. Experience as an HR Business Partner preferred.
•   Undergraduate degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience required.
•    Skilled facilitator, able to navigate tough conversations at all levels, and has strong conflict management and mediation skills 
•    Has comprehensive knowledge of DE&I and PR concepts and KPI measurements, including knowledge of best practices in promoting an inclusive workplace 
•    Expertise in drawing meaningful insights from data to create strategy, tell a story, and operationalize solutions
•    Able to identify, track and present on metrics of success with a mindset towards results and outcomes. 
•    Is highly collaborative and influential, and communicates clearly, concisely, and often with stakeholders. Is skilled at influencing at all levels without authority.
•    Exemplary attention to detail with an ability to issue spot and see around corners to proactively address workplace concerns.
•    Has a proven ability to build relationships and influence key partners, particularly on complex and sensitive issues.
•    Embodies accountability, pushes back on others when needed, and navigates through ambiguity and change with empathy  
•    Has high level of organizational maturity and ability to apply exemplary judgment 
•    Independent and creative thinker who understands the fast-paced nature of the industry and can work in an agile environment
•    Deep knowledge and expertise in employee relations, including US employment law, international HR practices, investigations, performance management and reductions in force.
•    Must have the business judgment to weigh and balance the needs of employees with the interest of the company and its culture to resolve conflict, ensure consistency and fairness, mitigate risk, and prevent liability


 

 

 

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is $83,900 to $135,300. Base salary is determined by a combination of factors including, but not limited to, job related years of relevant experience, internal equity, and location of the job. Additionally, this role is eligible for participation in Biogen’s LTI grants and other incentive programs.
