GIS Technician (Fiber Optic Cable) - Richmond, VA 

Duration: 2-year assignment 

Job Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented GIS Technician to join our team. In this role, the candidate will primarily be responsible for editing and maintaining GIS data to accurately display the installation of fiber optic cables. The ideal candidate will work closely with GIS and database applications related to electric utility distribution systems and fiber optic cables, supporting design, construction, and operational needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Edit GIS data to display fiber optic cables as they are installed.
• Work with GIS and database applications to model electric utility distribution systems and fiber optic networks.
• Ensure the creation of a connected model that accurately represents the fiber optic system.
• Manage and perform Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) processes to ensure data accuracy.
• Collaborate with the team to maintain data consistency and support business processes related to fiber optic cable installations.
• Be available for emergency and planned overtime as needed to support major weather events and project requirements.

Qualifications:

• Education/Certification: A degree or certification in GIS, Geography, or a related field is required.
• Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and database applications.
• Strong understanding of GIS data attributes supporting design, construction, and operations in fiber optic systems and electric utilities.
• Ability to model systems accurately and perform data validation tasks.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.

Work Schedule:

• The candidate must be flexible with start and end times. Start time should be between 6:30 AM and 8:30 AM.
• Overtime is not guaranteed, but may be required based on major weather events or specific project needs. Overtime will be planned or emergent as necessary.

Top Required Skill Set:

• GIS Education or Certification (mandatory).

Schedule:

• Every day until trained, then remote half of the time - 2 days onsite, 3 days remote.

Pay:

• $40,000 - $50,000 hourly equivalent 
• Full Benefits 
• 7 days PTO, 6 holidays
