More and more municipalities understand the importance of knowing where their assets are located – from sidewalks/curb ramps, to streets, and stormwater utilities. Performing those inventories, assessing the data, and teaching municipalities how to access this information on web-based platforms has become a key service offering from BETA. We are looking for a GIS Field Technician willing to support ongoing data development, spatial analysis, and cartographic output for municipal transportation projects. Responsibilities:
- Collect spatial data in the field using GPS units, total stations, and other surveying equipment
- Conduct field surveys and data collection activities to verify or update GIS data
- Ensure data format entries are accurate and consistent with standards
- Develop and maintain geographic database structures, tables, forms and reports
- Provide technical support high quality cartographic mapping and reports
- Support Project Managers on engineering projects with GIS data and maps
Preferred location is BETA’s Lincoln, RI office. Candidates should have flexibility to work from our other office locations. BETA also offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing employees to request working remotely up to 2 days per week.

Requirements
Skills Required:
- Bachelor’s degree program in GIS, Planning, Engineering, Environmental Resources, or a related field
- 1-3 years of professional experience with ESRI’s suite of tools (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS online, etc.)
- Solid understanding of technical application, concepts, principals, and theories in GIS
- Experience with ArcGIS Online; creating and publishing map services
- Proficient in the use of current technology (i.e., tablets, smart phones, laptops, etc.)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong technical aptitude and an eagerness to learn
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Must be able bend to take ground level measurements including but not limited to roadway, sidewalk, and utility assets; and perform asset inspections
- Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
- Must be able to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow)
- Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with AutoCAD
