Summary:
The person in this position will be part of an innovative and collaborative geotechnical engineering team of over 90 geotechnical engineers and geologists. Barr’s geotechnical engineering team serves the fuels, mining, power, and public sectors. We provide a wide array of services related to foundations, dams, embankments, landslides, soil-structure interaction, earth-retaining structures, excavations, and underground structures. We also offer geotechnical services for ground improvement, geotechnical modeling, instrumentation and monitoring, in-situ testing, geophysics, soil dynamics and earthquake engineering, geosynthetics, geohazard assessments, and groundwater and seepage.
The person in this position will work on a variety of geotechnical projects that involve traditional geotechnical and civil analysis and design related to deep foundations, slope stability, seepage, bearing capacity, settlement, and earth retention with an emphasis on highly technical analysis and design of complex slope stability and foundations. Additionally, this role involves supporting, growing, and building a dynamic team to expand Barr's numerical modeling practice. This position is a limited, part-time position and can be filled by an employee working a 0-hour base.
Key responsibilities:
Perform engineering investigation and design support tasks from the conceptual phase through design with an emphasis on advanced testing and numerical modeling
Provide support for feasibility studies, long-term planning, design, construction, operations, and performance monitoring
Provide support through training/mentorship for other geotechnical engineers, including researching advanced numerical modeling techniques
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate degree in geotechnical engineering (PhD)
10+ years of related work experience
Previous proficiency in geotechnical software such as GeoStudio (SEEP/W, SLOPE/W, SIGMA/W), Rocscience Slide, FLAC2D, FLAC3D, PLAXIS
Experience in the investigation, design, and construction of foundations and embankments
Strong technical skills in a wide range of geotechnical analysis and design disciplines
Proven history of developing a portfolio of business and providing exceptional client service
Demonstrated understanding of the consulting profession and critical problem-solving
Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing 30 pounds or more
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future
Possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with numerical modeling with PLAXIS 3D, RS3D, Leapfrog, OpenGround, Landform Evolution Models
