About the role: 

The Nuclear Company is the fastest growing startup in the nuclear energy sector, committed to developing and deploying innovative technologies for a sustainable energy future. We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic General Counsel to join our executive leadership team and provide expert legal counsel, with a strong emphasis on regulatory compliance and risk management. 

The General Counsel will serve as the chief legal officer of the company, providing strategic legal advice and guidance on all aspects of our business, with a particular focus on navigating the complex regulatory landscape of the nuclear energy industry. This role will be instrumental in ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, mitigating legal risks, and protecting the company's interests. This role will report into the President and CFO.  

Responsibilities:

Regulatory Compliance:  

  • Develop and implement comprehensive compliance programs to ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local regulations relevant to the nuclear energy industry, including NRC regulations. 
  • Advise on licensing, permitting, and regulatory approvals for nuclear facilities and operations. 
  • Monitor and analyze regulatory changes and developments, and provide proactive guidance to senior management. 
  • Manage interactions with regulatory agencies and represent the company in regulatory proceedings. 

Risk Management:  

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks across all areas of the business. 
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies and policies. 
  • Advise on contractual risks and negotiate complex agreements. 
  • Manage litigation and disputes, minimizing potential liabilities. 

Legal Counsel:  

  • Provide expert legal advice on a wide range of legal matters, including corporate governance, intellectual property, environmental law, and labor law. 
  • Draft and review contracts, agreements, and other legal documents. 
  • Advise on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and other strategic transactions. 
  • Represent the company in legal proceedings and negotiations. 

Corporate Governance:  

  • Advise the Board of Directors and senior management on corporate governance matters. 
  • Ensure compliance with corporate bylaws and policies. 
  • Manage corporate secretarial functions. 

Team Leadership:  

  • Build and lead a high-performing legal team. 
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to legal staff. 
  • Manage external legal counsel as needed. 

Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (or related field) and a CPA license.  
  • 8+ years' experience in accounting management 
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting standards.  
  • Expertise in internal controls, financial analysis, and budgeting/forecasting.  
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems, with advanced Excel skills.

Estimated Starting Salary Range: 

The estimated starting salary range for this role is $250,000 - $279,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a semi-monthly basis.  The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company’s discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
