We’re looking for a General Counsel at an exciting time – we’ve successfully launched multiple platforms and products, raised over $70m in VC funding, reached profitability, and have 10x’d in scale over the last 12 months

WHAT YOU WILL BE GETTING INVOLVED IN:

As our General Counsel, you’ll be a trusted leader in our executive team, reporting directly to our co-founder and COO (Oliver Knight) and also working closely with our co-founder and CEO (Charlie Bullock). You’ll be pivotal in steering Scan.com’s legal strategy across all markets, ensuring compliance, mitigating risk, and supporting strategic growth initiatives. Working closely with leadership, you will help drive sound decision-making that aligns with our mission and values and the needs of our clients and partners. You will be a critical role in fundraising and M&A activities and act as the consigliere to the co-founding team and Executives. You will also be expected to present to our Board of investors regularly and discuss the existing and emerging risks with respect to our business strategy and commercial model in the USA.

As a scaleup business, you can expect your role to develop over time. Here are some of the types of things you could be getting involved in:

  • Providing strategic legal advice to executive leadership, focusing on corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
  • Leading the development of legal policies and frameworks, ensuring compliance with international healthcare regulations and data privacy standards.
  • Driving the legal and administrative processes regarding equity and debt capital raises. Working closely with the CEO and CFO on capital raises, including attending investor meetings.
  • Manage relationships with external legal counsel and oversee complex litigation, contracts, and IP protections.
  • Assisting in M&A activities, due diligence, and integration efforts to drive growth and expand our offerings.
  • Building and managing an in-house legal team to support our expanding business needs.

THE TOP 5 THINGS WE WANT YOU TO ACHIEVE IN YOUR FIRST YEAR ARE

1. Establish a robust compliance framework across all operational jurisdictions, focusing on healthcare regulations and data privacy.

2. Develop and roll out scalable legal processes for contracting and partnerships, enhancing speed and efficiency in client, provider and vendor relationships.

3. Support a successful acquisition or strategic partnership, overseeing the legal due diligence (alongside being involved in commercial diligence) and integration.

4. Create a proactive risk management plan that aligns with our growth ambitions and enhances decision-making at the leadership level.

5. Establish strong relationships with our domain expert outside counsel and hold them accountable to key deliverables and costs. You’ll be responsible for the ‘legal’ P&L line item. Have designed a small, high-performing in-house legal team that aligns with Scan.com’s values and supports the company’s rapid growth trajectory.

WHAT YOU MIGHT BRING TO THE TABLE

You don't need to tick all the boxes to apply for this role. Whether it's your first or fifth role, we believe everyone can add value, learn, and grow. However, these might be some of the ways you are currently adding value:

  • Proven track record in advising on corporate governance, risk management, M&A, and/or strategic partnerships.
  • Familiarity with data privacy laws, including HIPAA, GDPR, and other global data protection standards.
  • Ability to balance legal risk with business strategy and provide clear, practical legal guidance.
  • Experience building and leading a legal team, with a passion for supporting high-growth, innovative environments.

HOW WE WILL INTERVIEW YOU:

We keep our interview process short and sweet, and we’re a nimble team that can progress at pace. Here are the stages you can expect, but we might switch up the order of each step depending on team availability:
