The Director, Future Capabilities Strategy will be responsible for …

  • Leading MLSS Division Mission Engineering efforts to include intra- & cross-sector collaboration

  • Leading MLSS Mission Architect team and support the development of chief mission architect pipeline

  • Aligning  MLSS capabilities to provide greater mission impact and better alignment towards the high-end threat commensurate with required business outcomes

  • Establishing and maintaining persuasive customer engagement with leading customer thinkers and stakeholders to understand future needs and inform / influence customers

  • Manage division product line strategy

  • Managing MLSS CRADA efforts

The Director, Future Capabilities Strategy will be responsible for developing future concepts of operation and enabling technologies that position the Maritime|Land Systems and Sensors (MLSS) Division for sustained growth.  The successful candidate will work closely with all MLSS Business Units, other Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) stakeholder organizations, and cross-sector stakeholders to understand future customer capability needs, communicate those needs, and drive business solutions.  The Director, Future Capabilities Strategy will be the primary MLSS interface to internal capability development organizations and to the Naval Science and Technology Enterprise (DARPA, ONR, SCO, Development Commands, etc.) for identifying customer capability needs and then developing and proposing mission solutions.  The Director, Future Capabilities Strategy will also be responsible for developing proposals and capturing external R&D funding for MLSS technology and mission capability development.

This position will report to the MLSS Vice President for Strategy and Mission Solutions.  The position requires demonstrated experience in working with external R&D organizations, developing mission solutions, strategy/roadmap development, and proposal/capture activities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Identify and steer future technology and capability needs

  • Develop and maintain MLSS technology roadmaps

  • Lead MLSS integration with Emerging Capabilities Development organization, track outcomes and set future requirements

  • Understand and integrate cross-division and cross-sector technology synergies

  • Lead Division interface to Naval S&T Enterprise - Labs, DARPA, ONR, Universities (shaping and capturing CRAD)

  • Integrate with the Modeling, Simulation and Analysis Community of Practice to develop/assess future mission capabilities that address customer needs and inform technology development

  • Lead MLSS CRADA strategy, implementation and execution

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and 12 or more years of Program Management, Management, or directly relatable experience; OR 10 or more years of Program Management, Management, or directly relatable experience and a Master's Degree

  • Five years of demonstrated experience in strategic planning, mission capability development, technical development road mapping, and/or experience working with the Naval Science and Technology enterprise

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – including the ability to present and articulate issues, strategies and solutions to senior customers and Northrop’s senior management team.

  • Working knowledge of DoD requirements development, budgeting and acquisition process.

  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance; or DoE Equivalent

  • Must work out of listed Northrop Grumman facility or another facility that has the necessary networks, SCIFs and accesses. Fully remote is not an option for this role

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ten years of demonstrated experience in strategic planning, mission capability development, technical development road mapping, and/or experience working with the Naval Science and Technology enterprise

  • Knowledge and understanding US Navy customer requirements generation and mission concepts of operations.

  • Experience with multi-domain mission engineering

  • Experience in the Navy requirements development, budgeting and acquisition process.

  • Broad network of key customers in the Naval Science and Technology enterprise. 

  • Active DoD TOP SECRET Clearance with SCI & SAP access.

Salary Range: $197,600.00 - $296,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
