UMass Global full-time faculty are responsible for teaching (including course development), mentoring, and contributing to university service. While research activities are supported, they are not mandatory. Faculty positions are non-tenure track, with most hires starting at the rank of Assistant Professor. We are seeking an innovative and dedicated full-time faculty member to join our Educational Counseling program. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in special education, experience with online teaching, and a commitment to fostering student success. This position encompasses teaching, course development, mentoring, and service to the department and institution.
This non-tenure 12-month position includes shared responsibilities for teaching, course development, mentoring students, and contributing to the service and advancement of the Educational Counseling program. The role requires a collaborative, innovative approach to delivering high-quality, fully online education while supporting student success and fostering program growth. Location of residence may be anywhere in the United States. 12-month faculty position accrues vacation at a bi-weekly rate of 6.15 hours.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching (60%)
Teach a range of graduate courses including clinical practice classes in Educational Counseling in a fully online format.
Assist educational counseling program chair with coordinating educational counseling program, including admissions, advisement, coursework, fieldwork, and assessment of candidates.
Develop, revise, and maintain high-quality online programs and courses that align with accreditation standards and best practices in online learning.
Collaborate with the Center for Instructional Innovation (CII) department to develop engaging curriculum that meets Quality Matters standards.
Assist with monitoring program data, student opinion surveys, and course data for continuous program improvement.
Employ inclusive teaching strategies that address diverse learning needs and promote equitable graduate candidatet outcomes.
Use technology effectively to engage graduate candidates in a virtual learning environment.
Demonstrate a commitment to adhering to and supporting student disability accommodations, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and university policies.
Experience developing and maintaining online courses using instructional design principles.
Mentoring (20%)
Provide academic and career guidance to graduate candidates, fostering their development as educators and leaders in Educational Counseling.
Supervise student research projects, capstone courses, or fieldwork and clinical experiences as applicable.
Support to candidates navigating challenges in a fully online learning environment and taking a leading role in monitoring graduate candidates’ fieldwork experiences.
Monitor candidates needing action plans.
Mentor students and adjuncts in both the courses and clinical practice.
Service (20%)
Participate actively in departmental, college, and university committees.
Contribute to program development, assessment, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Collaborate with colleagues to support accreditation efforts and maintain compliance with state and federal standards for teacher preparation programs.
Participate in outreach activities, enhancing the institution’s connection with the broader community.
Engage in scholarly or creative activities relevant to School Counseling and online education staying abreast of developments in the field.
Support clinical practice students and supervisors during clinical practice by collaborating with the Office of Credentials and Clinical Practice.
Qualifications:
Required:
Doctorate in Educational Counseling, Counselor Education, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
An active CA Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) in School Counseling
A minimum of three years of experience teaching in Educational Counseling, either in K-12 or higher education.
Educational Counseling Clinical Practice Experience- ability to supervise fieldwork students
Experience teaching in an online or hybrid environment, with proficiency in learning management systems (e.g., Brightspace, Blackboard).
Demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive practices in education..
Familiarity with accreditation processes for education programs (e.g., AAQEP,CTC, PPS, CACREP, CAEP).
Preferred:
California PPS credential in school counseling and school psychology.
Relevant licensure such as Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), Licensed School Counselor (LSC), Certified School Counselor (CSC),
A track record of scholarly work, professional presentations, or contributions to the field of Educational Counseling.
Prior experience in collaborating with stakeholders in community-based employer organizations.
Demonstrated experience working with non-traditional students.
Effective record of innovation integrating curriculum and practice with appropriate technologies.
Knowledge of UMass Global policies and procedures.

Various factors, including experience, education, and internal equity, determine the salary range for this position. The posted Typical Starting UMass Global Academic salary range establishes the minimum pay based on rank at the time of appointment. This ensures that all compensation decisions align with competitive market conditions and the individual's qualifications, promoting fairness and equity within the organization.
Typical Starting UMass Global Academic salary range:
Assistant Professor: $66,725 - $72,000
Associate Professor: $83,300 – 85,000
Professor: $91,900 - $93,000
