Job Summary
Under general direction, conducts quality flight instruction required in the professional pilot programs at Saint Louis University.Participates in standardization training for each course that is taught and piece of equipment used in instruction; maintains flight proficiency for each course that is instructed; adheres to all FAA regulations and departmental policies and procedures; researches new and improved teaching techniques.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Participates in standardization training for each course that is taught and piece of equipment used in instruction; maintains flight proficiency for each course that is instructed; adheres to all FAA regulations and departmental policies and procedures; researches new and improved teaching techniques.
- Meets with each student as published on schedule; ensures that all flight lessons are completed according to the Training Course Outline specifications; ensures that all appropriated endorsements are made in the student’s flight book and personal logbook.
- Submits requests for stage checks upon completion of each stage of flight training with Office Supervisor; ensures that all flight lessons and flight books are completed before request for stage check.
- Ensures that all training activities, flights, and briefings are conducted during normal business hours.
- Pulls aircraft in/out of hangar; helps in tying down aircraft; assists in departmental activities; attends meetings; performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The selected candidate will be hired into the job level to which their training/certification applies.
Level I Flight Instructor:
CFI - the basic CFI certificate is required. Certified Flight Instructor – Airplane (CFI) required; CFII/MEI certificate preferred; bachelor’s degree preferred. Can perform flight training in a single engine aircraft. Valid medical certificate required.
Level II Flight Instructor:
All of the above.
• CFII - must have the CFII rating when hired or has earned the rating while employed; can perform Instrument Rating flight training.
Salary/Benefits:
Salary for Flight Instructor Level I ($40,000), Level II ($44,000) plus benefits including vacation and sick leave, health/dental/vision/life insurance, 403B retirement savings plan and match, tuition remission, employee assistance program and wellness program.
