GENERAL SUMMARY:
As a forward-thinking leader overseeing the financial reporting functions, you will be the subject matter expert (SME) while supervising, coaching and developing your team to be successfully aligned with corporate initiatives.
Prepares internal and external periodic financial reports and regulatory required filings. Supervises work of staff responsible for GL reconciliations to ensure production of accurate financial statements. Works under limited supervision and in compliance with established policies and procedures.
Position Duties & Functions:
Executes the financial reporting process for management and the Board of Directors to ensure accurate and timely periodic financial statements. These reports include, but are not limited to, the monthly financial statements and quarterly Budget to Actual, Capital Expenditure Review, and NCUA Financial Performance Report. Keeps a proper record of all supporting documentation and delivers all reports in a timely manner to the VP-Accounting/SVP Controller for review and inclusion in the Board report. Coordinates with other accounting personnel/Credit Union staff as necessary to ensure timely completion.
Executes the periodic reporting process for our regulators and other external interested parties as assigned. This includes but is not limited to the quarterly NCUA 5300 and annual business property tax statements for each CFCU location.
Works with accounting staff in coaching, developing, guiding and supervising their work efforts.
Responsible for researching and documenting abnormalities or significant changes to financial reports.
Continually reviews Accounting reporting practices to identify opportunities for improvement and an efficient operation.
Works with the VP-Accounting and SVP-Controller to assist in preparation of the annual budget.
Works with the VP-Accounting and SVP-Controller to evaluate and document and update as necessary the various financial reporting processes and systems. Recommends and maintains formal policies, practices, and procedures to ensure US GAAP compliance, while maintaining a proper segregation of duties and internal controls.
Researches financial data as it relates to inquiries of management, federal and state examiners, as well as internal and external auditors and responds to VP-Accounting / SVP-Controller in written and/or verbal form. Works with VP-Accounting and SVP-Controller to establish, modify, and document accounting control procedures and general accounting systems to meet regulatory requirements and ensure compliance with US GAAP.
Researches and documents technical accounting issues as necessary to ensure compliance with US GAAP. Ensures compliance with regulatory accounting/reporting requirements. Works with VP-Accounting and SVP-Controller to establish, modify, document, and coordinate implementation of accounting procedures, accounting control procedures, and general accounting systems.
Works directly with the external auditors to help in the preparation of annual financial statements, disclosures, and footnotes, in connection with annual financial statement audit. Keeps a proper record and documentation of all balances disclosed including but not limited to the footnotes.
Manages the B2A monthly process, including preparation of the reports, sending them to key stakeholders, receiving the reply and incorporating them into the consolidated report to top management.
Manages the FAS91 function, including the month-end calculations and entry preparation.
Manages month-end calculations, including the loan loss provision and expense calculation.
Manages (no less than semi-annual) CECL reserve review.
Other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
EXPERIENCE and EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related area from a four-year college or university.
- Four to six years of related experience.
- Preferred: Experience working in credit union / financial institution-in their reporting function.
- Preferred: CPA and/or Masters in Accounting/Business.
- Preferred: Experience working with Symitar Quest, Blackline (or other reconciliation tool).
KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:
- Ability to write and speak effectively in English using correct spelling and grammar.
- Basic math skills including the ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages using a 10-key.
- Excellent PC skills including hands on experience with the Microsoft Office Suite of products (Word, Excel, Outlook), previous experience with banking or loan software is preferred (Symitar, ABT). Moderate keyboard skills at 40 wpm.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, groups of members, and/or Board of Directors
- Excellent customer service skills.
