Job Summary:

The Financial Analyst I is responsible for supporting the financial operations of the organization by collecting and analyzing basic financial data. This entry-level role involves preparing standard financial reports, assisting in budgeting and forecasting processes, and supporting basic financial modeling activities. The Financial Analyst I aids in performing variance analysis, tracking project expenses, and ensuring adherence to financial regulations. Additionally, they assist in monitoring sub-recipient financial activities, identify minor risks, and support the management of resources for specific projects. The Financial Analyst I works closely with senior analysts to develop their skills and gain exposure to more complex financial responsibilities. Provides initial analysis and business modeling support on strategic initiatives for senior management and field operations.

Accountabilities:

  • Collects and analyzes basic financial data

  • Generates the project financial reports for initial review and analysis of monthly financial reports regarding budget to actual and forecasts.

  • Assists in preparing budgets and forecasts

  • Support basic financial modeling activities; seeks explanation for variations to data

  • Assists in performing variance analysis

  • Has basic knowledge of applicable financial and accounting statutes and regulations.

  • Interprets and applies laws, analyzes information, and evaluates the impact of policies, procedures and practices.

  • Reviews and inputs financial data and final cost objectives, account information into accounting software systems.

  • Communicates findings to internal teams

  • Provides data support for strategic initiatives

  • Assists with tracking resource allocation and utilization

  • Utilizes financial tools and systems for analysis

  • Provides initial support for field programs by supporting the preparation of materials to conduct live and virtual meeting training on financial systems and processes.

  • Works with Global Program Management (GPM) staff to help them understand the financial aspects of the assigned Country Offices.

  • Supports basic financial tracking of sub recipients

  • Familiar with basic principles of financial management, budgeting, investment capital, risk analysis, debt management, generally accepted accounting principles and/or investment analysis.

  • Initiates and maintains relationships with industry representatives, co- workers and others.

  • Interacts with internal and external clients/customers using both oral and written communication skills to discuss financial processes or issues.

  • Organizes and formats reports to comply with applicable guidelines and provides appropriate documentation to support conclusions.

  • Presents oral and written testimony on basic issues.

  • Communicate structured information in a clear, concise, and organized manner suited to the characteristics and needs of the audience.

  • Ability to establish effective working relationships that foster organizational success.

  • Gathers, organizes, and analyzes financial information and other data.

  • Reviews and documents compliance with laws and regulations.

  • Reviews, examines and prepares documents.

  • Researches, investigates and analyzes data.

  • Prepares written findings; presents recommendations supported by facts.

  • Functions within defined guidelines and procedures to resolve routine issues, and to make independent and logical decisions and/or recommendations.

  • Contributions are usually limited to task-related activities.

  • Errors do not typically have a major effect on the organization.

  • Demonstrates an understanding of system functionality to provide answers for financial requests.

  • Errors may be detected and corrected.

  • External and internal audit requests are met timely, without outstanding issues.

Supervision Given/Received:

  • Work is closely supervised.

  • Follows specific, detailed instructions.

  • Elevates to supervisor any unusual problems encountered in the financial analysis process.

  • Keeps supervisor updated on project status, discrepancies, and any unusual situations that will impact timely completion of reports or projects.

  • Typically reports to Manager

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree or its International Equivalent.

Experience:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 3+ years of progressively responsible financial analysis experience in a government contracting environment.

  • Experience in providing outstanding customer service, performing complex activities associated with maintaining ledger accounts, and in ensuring compliance with company’s system of internal controls is required.

  • Computerized accounting software experience required.

  • Proficiency in spreadsheet software required.

  • Articulate and professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive fashion with clients and staff.

  • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English; fluent in host country language as appropriate.

  • Non-governmental organization (NGO) experience preferred.

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Typical office environment.

  • Ability to spend long hours looking at computer screen and doing repetitive work on a keyboard.

  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to lift/move up to 5 lbs.

Technology to be Used:

  • Personal Computer/Laptop, Microsoft applications (i.e., Office 365, SharePoint, Skype/Zoom/Teams), cell phone/mobile technology, and standard office equipment.

Travel Requirements:

  • Less than 10%

The expected US Based hiring salary range for this role is listed below. Candidate FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget. 

 

Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI 360 contributes 12% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account. Additionally, all US based staff working full-time, which is calculated at 40 hours/week, receive 18 days of paid vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 11 holidays per year. Paid time off is reduced pro rata for employees working less than a full-time schedule.

 

US Based Hiring Salary Range: $50,000 - $65,000

International hiring ranges will differ based on location.
