Finance Manager

We’re looking for a Finance Manager who is passionate about making a difference while honing their financial expertise, to join our friendly and collaborative team. In this vital role, you’ll take the lead in ensuring excellence in our financial processes and functions across the Foundation’s activities. With your unique blend of commercial and not-for-profit experience, you will review and enhance our financial administration, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and industry best practices. You'll also work closely with our team to identify and implement innovative improvements. This flexible part-time position (three days a week) offers an exciting opportunity to contribute meaningfully to our mission while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Requirements

Role Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience of success in a similar financial management role
  • Strong analytical skills 
  • Qualified with a recognised Accounting Body (CIMA, ICAEW, ACCA or equivalent) or QBE with 5+ years experience of management accounting 
  • Knowledge and experience of not for profit financial management is essential, charity SORP is desirable
  • Experience of effective development and implementation of finance systems and reporting tools, ideally including Xero 
  • Experience of international finance and banking systems is desirable
  • Can-do attitude with a hands on approach and the ability to drive and manage change
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability and desire to build relationships and work across teams in support of the Foundation objectives
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience of managing and building the skills of junior team members
  • Ability to think strategically and translate financial information into practical reality
  • Desirable, working internationally

Specifically the Finance Manager will - 

Processes

  • Have oversight of developing and implementing financial procedures as applied by the Foundation team
  • Ensure financial information is available to the board via the Chief Executive, the management team and staff team as required
  • Ensure all staff, both financial and non-finance staff, are supported in the management and implementation of budgets and other financial activities
  • Contribute to the development of new strategies, including for instance an investment strategy

 

Budgeting, Accounts and Reporting

  • Ensure accounting requirements are correctly applied, preparing, developing and analysing management accounting information
  • Regular bank reconciliations and associated transactions  and research and resolve invoice discrepancies.
  • Detailed daily cashflow management / planning and bank accounts maintenance
  • Supports the Foundation team with tender and proposal completions
  • Take responsibility for ensuring the accuracy of the accounting and control information held in, and reported from, the organisation's accounting systems.
  • Prepare annual budgets and forecasts in collaboration with budget holders
  • Prepare quarterly reports to the Board
  • Support the preparation of Year-end statutory accounts and associated transactions, reports and returns in liaison with our accountant partners 
  • Works with our accountant partners to oversee payroll instructions
  • Responsible for ensuring submission of all HMRC and Companies House filings and returns, liaising with our external accounting partners as appropriate
  • Supports audit requirements 

 

Compliance & Risk

  • Ensure compliance with third party requirements such as HMRC, including working with our accountant partners to ensure the correct application of VAT etc.
  • Oversee the maintenance of financial records and accounts for the Foundation
  • Ensure the identification of financial risks, working closely with the Operations Director to record these in the Foundation risk register

Salary

Salary is £23,832 - £28,036 / FTE £39,720 - £46,728 - which is £23,832 - £28,036 pro rata at 3 days a week
