Finance Assistant

The Finance Assistant role at Purple offers a great opportunity to join a strong finance and business operations team in a fast growing, fast paced business.  

This role will suit someone who is early in their finance career, with a year or two of experience. You could be a recent graduate with experience through a placement year, or maybe you’re already working in a finance team and you’re ready for your next step.

You’ll be supporting many of our core transactional finance activities, including purchase ledger, payroll and expenses, banking and payment runs, management information and monthly reporting, as well as ad hoc tasks across the wider business operations team.

What you’ll do

Key Responsibilities

  • Purchase Ledger - Managing incoming purchase invoices and ensuring timely entry into our accounting system. Working closely with the wider business to obtain approvals where necessary.
  • Expenses - You’ll be the go-to finance contact for expenses and the Webexpenses system.
  • Bank Reconciliation - Ensuring payments in our accounting system are reconciled in a timely manner, as well as monthly offline bank reconciliations.
  • Payment Runs - Managing our payments process cycle; identifying what needs to be paid when and managing this process on multiple banking systems.
  • Credit Cards - Ensure timely and accurate posting of credit card transactions into the accounting system and ensure reconciliation within the accounting system.
  • Payroll Processing - ensuring payrolls are processed accurately and in a timely manner; ensuring they are entered into the account system and paid on time.
  • Month End - Responsibility for parts of our month end process including; key calculations, journal entries, KPIs, cost centre analysis.
  • Business operations - this role will also work closely with the business operations team to support with sales orders, reporting and other projects as needed

Requirements

About you

Our perfect candidate is keen to grow a career in Finance.  You’ll be highly motivated and energetic with a strong aptitude for numbers and a passion for learning.  

You’ll also bring with you the following skills & experience:

  • Maths GCSE (7 or above)
  • Business related A level (e.g. accounting, business or economics)
  • Inquisitive and questioning mindset
  • Deadline-oriented
  • Experience working with confidential and sensitive information
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Attention to detail
  • Adaptable and a quick learner
  • A business related degree would be a plus but isn’t essential
  • Experience working in a Finance team or similar role would be a bonus
