Field Director CVM Liaisons - Mid Atlantic Team
Territory to include PA, VA, WVA, DC, MD, & NJ. Applicants can be located within the territory or northeastern/southeastern US.
What you will do

This is a field-based Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Field Director position in the CVM therapeutic area within the US Medical Affairs Organization, reporting to the National Director Cardiovascular Metabolic MSLs. The primary responsibility of the field director is the management, performance, and coaching of a region of MSL direct reports. The field director ensures compliant execution of field medical plans, strategy, and activities within US Medical Affairs, as aligned with Amgen's company goals and objectives. Accountabilities and responsibilities for the role include:
Responsibilities
- Lead a regional team of MSLs towards execution of field medical activities by communicating expectations and guiding the team to optimize medical strategy, prioritization, and performance in support of medical objectives.
- Ensure team achieves compliant and clinically meaningful scientific engagements & activities with health care decision makers, payers, and other health care stakeholders in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, industry codes, and Amgen Code of Conduct
- Accompany direct reports in meetings with health care decision makers and other health care stakeholders to assess proficiency and provide timely, candid, and constructive performance feedback.
- Use interactive aligned discussions and guided activities to assist direct reports in identifying opportunities for growth and leadership within and beyond the MSL role, inspiring them to take an active role in career development and enhance their personal and professional potential.
- Manage and coordinate MSL team meetings to support team building, best practice sharing, development, retaining top talent, and execution of field medical objectives.
- Forge positive relationships and cross-functional collaboration with key internal stakeholders in Global Medical, Field Sales, Value and Access, and Marketing teams to facilitate One-Amgen customer facing engagement strategies and champion the value of the MSL team. May serve as lead for critical cross-functional initiatives.
- Identify, interview, hire and onboard new MSLs to create a diverse and inclusive team.
- Assess new hire field readiness by assisting Global Learning and Performance in therapeutic area, disease state, and product training, including assistance with post-training competency assessment.
- Provide input on annual budget and resource allocation for the therapeutic area and ensure appropriate utilization of financial resources regionally.
- Assist medical leadership in development of field medical strategy, tactical goals and objectives, and Scientific Engagement Plans (SEPs).
- Support planning and field medical execution of local, regional, and national congresses. May serve as FD lead for a congress.
- Lead and manage change initiatives as needed to drive achievement of medical objectives.
- Foster an inclusive and psychologically safe team culture that reflects core Amgen values
- Advance cross-functional understanding of the MSL value proposition, identify gaps, achieve results, and set an example for others to follow by consistently demonstrating Amgen values and leadership attributes.
- Foster compliant cross-functional collaboration and communication with commercial and value/access field management
What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:
- Doctorate degree & 4 years of Medical Affairs experience,
or
- Master’s degree & 8 years of Medical Affairs experience,
or
- Bachelor’s degree & 10 years of Medical Affairs experience,
and
- 3 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
Preferred Qualifications:
- Pharm.D., Ph.D., M.D. or D.O. (Other Doctoral Degrees considered)
- Seven years of industry experience in Scientific/Medical Affairs at a biotech or pharmaceutical company
- At least three years in a medical science liaison role
- Seven or more years focused on clinical practice, clinical research, or medical research. Experience in a medically related field can include post-doctoral training (i.e., residencies and/or fellowships)
- Three years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
- TA expertise
- Able to travel 50%-60% within territory

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
