We are seeking a Fiber Design Specialist to help design and deliver a hyperscale fiber optic network to meet accelerating capacity demand in support of one of the world’s largest tech platforms. As a Fiber Design Specialist, you will partner closely with Network Development Managers, cross-functional teams, and our suppliers to help design, plan and execute the delivery of fiber networks. This role requires a solid fiber networking background, critical thinking skills, and strong interpersonal skills. 

Fiber Design Specialist Responsibilities 

  • Partner with Network Development Managers and vendors to design and plan fiber optic networks including route planning and strand assignment from point of presence (POP) to POP 
  • Create and maintain detailed logical and physical network diagrams including fiber routing, splice points, and network topology through the minimum point of entry (MPOE), cross-connects, and patch panels into optical equipment 
  • Identify and signal demand to Network Development Managers for required orders for splices between vendor fiber, OSX patches, cross-connects, riser fiber, racks, and PDUs
  • Identify opportunities to pre-order components to reduce overall fiber delivery intervals 
  • Help define supply requirements and master fiber path records, match contracts to master fiber path records and assign physical strands to rails using internal systems 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, construction, and operations, to ensure successful project delivery 
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and company policies
  • Provide technical support and guidance to internal stakeholders and external partners 
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in fiber optic network design 
  • Participate in the development of new business opportunities and proposals 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecom, Computer Science, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in fiber optic network sales engineering or design, with a focus on both outside plant (OSP) and inside plant (ISP) 
  • Strong knowledge of fiber optic technology, including fiber types, connectors, ILA hut design, and DWDM transmission systems 
  • Experience with design software, such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Google Earth, and/or specialized fiber design tools, e.g., ESRI, FiberPlanIT 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders including Data Center Project Management, Data Center Networking, Network Planning, Network Development Managers, Network Implementation Engineers, Data Center OSP and Edge Network Services teams 
  • Ability to travel 5-10% or as required 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecom, Computer Science, or related field
  • Professional certification, e.g., PE or CCNA 
  • Experience with fiber optic network splicing, testing, and troubleshooting 
  • Knowledge of telecommunications industry standards and regulations, e.g., TIA, FOA, and IEEE 
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools, e.g., Agile, Asana

Salary Range

$85,120.00 - $134,400.00 USD (Salary)
  • Please note that the salary information provided herein is base pay only (gross); it does not include other forms of compensation which may or may not apply to this specific position, namely, performance-based bonuses, benefits-related payments, or other general incentives - none of which are guaranteed, may be subject to specific eligibility requirements, and are wholly within the discretion of Astreya to remit.
  • Further, the salary information noted above is a range that consists of a minimum and maximum rate of pay for this specific position. Where an applicant or employee is placed on this range will depend and be contingent on objective, documented work-related considerations like education, experience, certifications, licenses, preferred qualifications, among other factors.
