The anticipated salary range for this role is between $208,000.00 and $240,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Director, Fair Lending is responsible for the execution of SMBC MANUBANK’s Fair Lending program to ensure the Bank complies with all fair lending laws, rules and regulations.  Key responsibilities include conducting the annual Fair Lending Risk Assessment, advising business partners on fair lending risks as well as assisting them with identifying and remediating fair lending risks, and conducting periodic monitoring activities such as fair lending regression analyses. 

PRINCIPAL DUITES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as subject matter expert in fair lending laws and regulations, and advise the lines of business, operational areas and Compliance colleagues on Fair Lending issues, including business initiatives and regulatory changes.
  • Provide strong leadership skills in spearheading discussions with senior management, engaging stakeholders, clearly articulating issue and identifying collaborative solutions to mitigate risk.
  • Lead matters regarding statistical analysis, regression and model risk management.
  • Conduct detailed and rigorous assessments regarding business and operational processes and procedures; analyzes results and makes recommendations on the adequacy and reliability of controls.
  • Conduct annual fair lending risk assessment
  • Complete periodic fair lending reviews (underwriting, pricing, marketing, redlining, steering, etc.) to evaluate the bank’s level of compliance with fair lending laws, regulations, and guidance
  • Research regulations, staying apprised of fair lending regulatory developments and conduct impact analysis for respective lines of business and preparation of Board and management reporting on applicable program components and metrics.
  • Assist in the coordination of audit and exam materials.
     

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

Education:    Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in banking and compliance functions.  CRCM certification preferred.

Experience:    

  • 10+ years of experience with regulatory compliance in a banking environment. 
  • Experience with fair lending laws and regulations, including but not limited to Equal Credit Opportunity Act and Fair Housing Act.
  • Experience with completing statistical analyses and testing to address fair lending concerns, including the use of statistical analyses to prepare action plans.
  • Experience in managing models
