We are seeking an Executive Director to join FoundationCCC in its mission of benefitting, supporting, and enhancing the California Community Colleges—the largest and most diverse system of higher education in the nation. What You’ll Do

The Executive Director, Resource Development, manages the Resource Development Department within the Advancement Division, honing the organization’s capabilities in resource development to produce revenue through gifts, grants, and corporate philanthropic relationships. The ideal candidate is an accomplished fundraiser with broad nonprofit resource development expertise. They excel at relationship-building, setting priorities and at developing, executing, and adapting work plans. They are adept at internal and external relationship-building through high quality communication, both written and verbal. They are experienced at developing and managing high-performing, mission-motivated teams, and can get things done in a highly collaborative environment. Reporting to a Vice President, this position works in close collaboration with FoundationCCC’s program directors, marketing and communications team, finance team, legal services team and others to accelerate FoundationCCC’s growth and impact.

The Resource Development Department is responsible for the creation, development, and management of financial opportunities in support of FoundationCCC’s mission and role as the innovation hub for the California Community Colleges. The department makes the case for and secures gifts, grants, and other philanthropic partnerships; and cultivates donor and grantor relationships.  In addition, the Resource Development Department implements the Strategic Support for Colleges and Scholars Program, which provides colleges with grants, scholarships, and emergency financial aid. Directs the implementation of strategies and tactics to diversify and grow FoundationCCC’s base of philanthropic and governmental support

  • Directs the implementation of strategies and tactics to diversify and grow FoundationCCC’s base of philanthropic and governmental support.
  • Guides fund development efforts across the organization and with key partners including the Chancellor’s Office.
  • Seeks and identifies viable resource development opportunities in alignment with the organization’s mission, priorities, and capabilities.
  • Secures operating, programmatic, and special project funds from a variety of sources.
  • Leads the development and execution of annual fundraising efforts.
  • Provides a full spectrum of leadership to programs and staff in the planning, writing, program design, budget development, and evaluation of case-related, persuasive resource development communications, including appeals and proposals that help program directors and fiscally sponsored programs garner funding to support program priorities.
  • Oversees development of resources and processes that support organizational leadership at all levels to serve as champions for FoundationCCC’s resource development goals.
  • Serves as a liaison to the Chancellor’s Office and important partners regarding fund development.
  • Cultivates and manages strategic partnerships to increase grant resources and sustainability of grant-funded programs.
  • In coordination with the Marketing and Communications team, oversees strategy to promote the organization to its funders, donors and other stakeholders, and to maximize public awareness of the fundraising activities of the organization.

Attributes for Success

  • Minimum of ten (10 +) years of related work experience in philanthropic grantmaking and/or resource development for nonprofit organizations or similar institutions with demonstrated success
  • Minimum of seven (7+) years management experience to include strong program, financial, and team management skills, including experience supervising highly skilled professionals
  • Minimum of five (5+) years overseeing large-scale complex projects and/or program portfolios
  • Expert knowledge of resource development principles, planning, ethics, and legal requirements, including gifts and grants.
  • Decision-making skills to assess situations to determine the importance, urgency, and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the organization
  • Able to anticipate, understand, prioritize, and respond to the needs of funders, donors, and partners in written and verbal communication
  • Able to develop effective working relationships with team members, funders, donors, and partners while working collaboratively, cooperatively, and effectively to set goals, resolve problems and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness
  • Able to plan and determine strategies to move the organization forward, set goals, create, and implement actions plans, and evaluate the process and results
  • Strong understanding of program design and budget preparation
  • Ability to synthesize complex or diverse information, understand data, tell a story about it, and use intuition and experience to build a compelling case for support

Budgeted Annual Salary Pay Range:

$160,000.00 - $185,000.00

Final salary and rates are based on education, experience, skills relevant to the role, and internal equity.
