General Description:

BeiGene is seeking strategic, creative, and experienced Executive Director, Product and Pipeline Communications to lead, build and execute strategic communication plans and materials for marketed and pipeline products in BeiGene’s portfolio and the R&D organization with an emphasis on the pipeline and partnerships. The incumbent will lead a small team of specialized communications experts to execute strategies for program and product milestones and other initiatives/programs that drive the corporate narrative internally and externally. 

The incumbent will have a strong understanding of global strategies and programs needed to drive product and pipeline communications to align with BeiGene objectives as well as specific objectives for commercialized products and R&D.  This individual will work with key external stakeholders (biotech partners, KOLs/institutions, media, etc.) to enhance the perception and visibility of the Company. Responsibilities include day-to-day management of product and pipeline communications, including but not limited to investor relations support, corporate narrative and content, and risk management. The incumbent will also develop and advance media and public relations in new markets, in partnership with key stakeholders inside and outside of the Company. This role will balance reacting to industry or Company situations with proactively identifying opportunities to position and extend BeiGene’s brand.

The Executive Director, Product and Pipeline Communications will work closely across the Corporate Affairs function and within the business, especially with Legal, Public Affairs, and Investor Relations. The role requires a strong understanding of the business, oncology product and science landscape, and an ability to build close relationships cross-functionally and counsel senior executives. This role reports into the Vice President, Corporate Communications.

Essential Functions of the job:

  • Lead the development and execution of comprehensive communications strategies that support the company’s product portfolio, R&D pipeline and corporate objectives.; work collaboratively with cross-functional leaders to identify opportunities and gaps to establish an enterprise/global communications cadence.
    • Lead the strategy, development, and execution of R&D communication plans, reputation, thought leadership, and executive visibility programs that are aligned to enterprise business priorities.
    • Provide strategic leadership, development and execution for BRUKINSA and TEVIMBRA product / lifecycle communication plans at an enterprise, global level
    • Oversee members of the regional team implementation of the annual plan, include thought leadership and executive visibility programs that are aligned to enterprise business priorities.

Strategic Communications Leadership

  • Build relationships and partner with senior leadership and functional heads to develop and implement communication strategies that support the product and pipeline objectives, ensuring alignment with overall enterprise corporate goals.
  • Lead the creation of messaging frameworks to key milestones, regulatory approvals and launches.

Communications Readiness

  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to establish tools and processes to identify and monitor a full range of issues with the potential to impact the Company’s reputation and brand. Help develop a crisis-ready mindset across the organization through training and the development of proactive scenario plans.
  • Advise, develop and distribute company positioning on key industry issues and trends.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to execute strategic communications plans, including external positioning and internal education.
  • Manage crisis communications related to product issues

Media and Public Relations

  • Provide strategic guidance, manage relationships and industry influencers
  • Oversee development and dissemination of press releases, Q&A, fact sheets, messages, social media content and other communications materials
  • Ensure that product and pipeline communications are consistent and aligned across internal and external stakeholder groups

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing communications team
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement within the team

Metrics

  • Establish metrics to measure the effectiveness of product and pipeline communications
  • Provide regular updates to senior leadership on communication strategy performance and adjust strategies as needed

Financial Management

  • Collaborate with agency partners to optimize financial investments
  • Lead financial planning annually for the Product and Pipeline AOP efforts
  • Manage the annual budget allocated

Other Qualifications:   

  • At least 15 years of healthcare public relations experience, with at least 5 years in a corporate (pharma or biotech) setting.
  • Deep experience in Product and R&D communications.
  • Proven track record of leading successful communications strategies for product launches and pipeline developments
  • Strong media relations experience, with establish relations in the healthcare, pharmaceutical and oncology landscape
  • Able to build and maintain close, collaborative relationships with all levels of the organization to ensure alignment and integration of strategies, tactics and content.
  • Strong understanding of integrated communications strategies.
  • Adept at working with executive-level leaders; able to balance c-suite direction and requests with sound, strong, experience-based counsel.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Possesses sound judgment, critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Operates with a growth mindset; is self-aware and receptive to feedback.
  • Influences with and without authority; can effectively make a case for and follow through on strategic and tactical recommendations.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, with a track record of developing and managing high-performance teams
  • Experience in enterprise/global communications with a deep understanding of the regulatory and cultural nuances in different regions
  • Background in crisis and issues management
  • Familiarity with digital and social media strategies in the context of healthcare communications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented, with a strong ability to organize and analyze.
  • Collaborative, self-directed team player.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  

  • Lead a small team of Pipeline and Product comms experts. Must be able work across teams and in a matrix environment.  

Education Required: Bachelor’s degree required and graduate degree preferred.  Preferably a Master’s degree in business, political science/public administration, biology/chemistry, or public health.

Salary Range: $208,200.00 - $288,200.00 annually

BeiGene is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Actual compensation packages are determined by several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, certifications, relevant education or training, and specific work location. Packages may vary by location due to differences in the cost of labor. The recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for a preferred location during the hiring process.  Please note that the listed range reflects the base salary or hourly range only. Non-Commercial roles are eligible to participate in the annual bonus plan, and Commercial roles are eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.
