The Estimator will provide support to the sales team by drafting quotes and proposals in a timely manner with an extremely high attention to detail to help win business for the company. The Estimator will build detailed scopes of work and cost estimates for projects from start to finish. The Estimator maintains strong knowledge in information technology, design process and estimating principles. This position will work closely with our sales team, general managers, engineers and project managers to estimate profitable projects without sacrificing the company's commitment to quality and profitability. The Estimator will also provide support to the operations team by ensuring accuracy and thoroughness of projects from takeoffs to close out documentation for projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Cost Estimation:  Review project plans, specifications, and related documents to determine scope and requirements. Prepare detailed cost estimates for construction projects by analyzing blueprints, specifications, and other project documents.
  • Collaborate: with sales team, General Manager, Engineers and Project Managers to ensure comprehensive and competitive bids. Review Request for Proposals (RFP) with Team, Develop Request for Information’s (RFI) as needed. Review & Understand Specifications as required of the RFP.  Perform physical take-offs of plans for counts of materials.  Work collaboratively with other teams to develop process and continuous improvement for project design and estimating.
  • Presales job walk:  to determine materials, time and resources needed to complete the job, flags potential problem areas, reviews options, and proposes solutions to sales team based on customers' requirements.  Work with engineering to document and diagram the hardware that was identified on the job walk as needed.
  • Creates Bids:  Creates detailed, scopes of work, labor and material cost estimates, budgets and rough order magnitude. 
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits as needed to gather necessary information.
  • Submits Bids: Develop and submit bids for projects, ensuring all required documents and cost breakdowns are included.
  • Data Analysis: Collect and analyze data on all factors that can influence costs, including materials, labor, location, duration, and special equipment requirements.
  • Vendor and Supplier Coordination: Communicate with suppliers, vendors and subcontractors to obtain pricing information and ensure competitive pricing. Conduct price comparisons to pull together the best materials for the best price to get the job done.
  • Project Planning: Collaborate with general managers, project managers and engineers to develop project schedules and budgets.
  • Maintain, build expertise in and update cost databases and other estimating tools.
  • Floor plan takeoffs:  participate in floor plan/project take offs.
  • Project turnover meetings participate with sales and project management as required to cover all details and expectations of project as they were designed.
  • Provide technical sales support and technology presentations to sales department and clients as needed.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
  • 30-50% travel 

Skills and Competencies

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel) and estimating software.
  • Enthusiastic, driven, and eager to improve.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and communication skills
  • Effective problem-solving and organizational abilities
  • Experience in a commercial and government security technology sector
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  •  Field Installation knowledge/experience a plus
  • Security Systems knowledge/experience a plus

REQUIREMENTS

  • 3-5 years’ experience estimating projects in the structured cabling, low voltage and access control industry
  • Bachelor’s degree. Degree in construction management, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or demonstrated project management experience a plus.
  • Proficiency and ability to learn quickly in financial software, such as Excel, ERP systems, and data visualization tools.
  • Proficiency in construction estimating techniques.
  • Ability to work within and comply with proposal/bidding time constraints/deadlines, individually and in a team environment.
  • Skillful in writing detailed Scope of Work (SOW).
Pay Range $80,000—$110,000 USD
