Job Summary:The Corrective Action Program Unit is responsible for regulating the investigation and cleanup of petroleum releases from leaking underground storage tanks (USTs) in Arizona. This work strongly aligns to ADEQ’s mission/vision to protect and enhance public health and the environment.
The Program Manager is responsible for supervising up to 12 staff and overseeing the preapproval and state lead programs. Staff are responsible for managing leaking UST cases and reviewing regulatory reports.
All ADEQ management positions champion continuous improvement projects within the unit and recommend and implement programs or operational improvements; assist in the development of goals and strategies; develop policies and procedures related to environmental inspections, enforcement, compliance, and/or scientific studies; and are involved in the most complex or high-profile projects or assignments.
The preferred candidate will have experience in environmental investigation, cleanup and staff supervision.
This position is available for remote work on a full-time basis within Arizona (including virtual office arrangements).

Job Duties:- Management and supervision of staff and operations, including training/coaching and disciplinary actions as needed.
- Manage unit budget in order to be aware of financial resources for staff training, strategic hiring, purchasing of necessary equipment/software, and travel (in and out of state).
- Ensures the unit is in compliance with program goals, state and federal rules and regulations, and grant requirements.

- Supports the section in meeting performance measures by developing and participating in process improvement projects and develops revised processes that increase work efficiency, quality and output.
- Ensure performance and flow boards are being properly used by staff and updates upper management by tracking and reporting applicable agency performance measures.
- Functions as a technical and regulatory resource for staff, supervisors, stakeholders, customers, and the general public for UST corrective action activities.
- Acts as a decision maker on unit level decisions, as necessary and appropriate.
- Comprehensive knowledge of leaking UST state/federal rules and statutes, corrective action unit environmental programs, petroleum release investigation and confirmation practices, and petroleum contaminant remediation.
- Knowledge of or the ability to learn state and federal environmental compliance and enforcement protocols and their interpretations will also be valuable experience for the position.
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental management, environmental or chemical engineering, geology, biology, hydrology, or other environmental discipline.
- Minimum of 3 - 5 years of environmental experience in a regulatory agency, consulting, or private industry with petroleum corrective action.
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience managing staff level employees.
