Your day at NTT DATA

The Environmental Engineer will develop and lead an environmental culture within NTT GDCA and is responsible to define, implement and maintain frameworks to support and enhance the environmental strategy for GDC Americas. This position will provide direct leadership and oversight within the business to mitigate environment al regulatory and legal compliance risks.

What you'll be doing

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, coach and functionally develop key stakeholders through structured, systematic and purposeful individual leadership and collaborative teamwork.

  • Work closely alongside GDC Americas energy, sustainability, governance and health & safety counterparts to develop an integrated approach to environmental management where applicable.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant environmental legislation frameworks across GDCA, both through establishing GDCA standards and by ensuring they are implemented and applied by competent workforce.

  • Lead discussions with Design & Engineering and Construction to ensure that environmental risks and opportunities play an integral role in design considerations for new projects.

  • Oversee arrangements between Construction and Operational phases of a facility to ensure that environmental management is correctly transitioned from a project’s construction phase to a live operational facility.

  • Act as SME and the escalation point for business and key stakeholders during environmental incidents.

  • Drive standardization in our approach to continuously improve GDCA environmental performance

  • Develop and integrate a program of audits to measure and report on compliance with environmental standards across GDCA.

  • Implement objectives, KPIs and reporting formats so that the company has a comparable view of environmental compliance and performance across the business portfolio.

  • Work closely with Legal and Governance to ensure that the environmental provisions are fully aligned with the company’s overarching business risk and compliance activities.

  • Work closely with the training department to develop a suite of in-house training certifications for environmental management, which complement the business training framework and statutory trainings.

  • Support Sales and Customer Management with customer requests and attend meetings where necessary.

  • Play an integral role in the Operations Team and provide support and statistics to colleagues to help identify trends and implement improvement plans.

  • Maintain a knowledge of industry and regulatory rules, requirements and developments to ensure ongoing compliance and best practice.

  • Develop a positive team culture through achievement of results, teamwork, development, accountability, competency and professionalism.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of state, federal and local DEQ requirements in addition to EPA guidelines and regulations

  • Demonstrated competency as well as experience in Environmental compliance programs both as applicable to OSHA CFR29 1910 and 1926.

  • Experience working with environmental agencies.

  • Ability to lead contractors in pursuit of environmental permitting for construction projects and operational facilities.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills

  • Professional and tactful with ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Strong proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)

  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.

  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills

  • Dedicated to excellent customer service and process improvement.

  • Ability to teach, mentor and lead.

  • Ability to work in a production environment and to respond quickly and effectively under pressure and deadlines.

  • Comfortable working in a highly critical, fast paced environment with shifting priorities.

  • Ability to make independent judgments to manage and facilitate company programs/policies as they relate to our environmental programs.

  • Ability to respond to emergency situations at the data center.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental health and safety or equivalent education and/or work experience in a related field required.

  • Certified Environmental Professional qualifications such as (CHMM and CESSWI) required.

  • Minimum eight (8) years’ experience as an Environmental professional, with a minimum of three (3) years of related construction experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Some sitting with Walking, standing, and bending on construction projects and throughout the operations facilities.

  • Able to hear and speak into a telephone.

  • Close visual work on a computer terminal.

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate any required to operate computer keyboard, mouse, and other technical instruments.

  • Ability to climb ladders and work on raised platforms.

  • Requires ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

WORK CONDITIONS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Construction Environment.

  • Exposure to varying temperatures and loud noises.

  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions.

  • Travel required 50% of time.

  • Perform work from a remote location with stable internet connection.

  • Able to work flexible hours.

  • Responsible to carry a cell phone and provide 24 X 7 support.

  • Must possess a current, valid state-issued driver’s license.

This is a remote position that requires reliable internet connection and electricity. A monthly stipend is provided to cover expenses associated with working remotely and use of a personal mobile device, if applicable.


NTT Global Data Centers Americas, Inc. offers competitive compensation based on experience, education, and location. Base salary for this position is $ 118,300 - $ 169,000.


All regular full-time employees are eligible for an annual bonus; payout is dependent upon individual and company performance.
