Engineering Manager, Software Quality

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Engineering Manager, Software Quality to lead and empower our quality assurance and testing efforts. In this role, you will guide and support a team of software quality engineers responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of our hardware and cloud software products. You will champion the development and implementation of automated testing strategies, continuous testing frameworks, and best practices to enhance software quality and accelerate delivery. Your leadership and technical expertise will be instrumental in fostering a culture of quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement across the engineering organization.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and support a team of software quality engineers, providing mentorship, technical guidance, and career development support.
- Define and drive the software quality vision, strategy, and roadmap, ensuring alignment with business and engineering goals.
- Oversee the design and implementation of test automation frameworks, CI/CD testing pipelines, and quality assurance processes.
- Establish and track key quality metrics (e.g., defect rates, test coverage, release stability) to measure and improve software reliability.
- Collaborate with various teams and stakeholders to ensure quality is embedded throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Develop and promote standards for performance, security, and scalability testing to ensure high-quality software releases.
- Oversee test environments, data strategies, and automation infrastructure to enable efficient and reliable testing.
- Lead defect triage and root cause analysis efforts to identify patterns, reduce recurring issues, and improve overall system stability.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends, tools, and methodologies in software quality engineering and advocate for their adoption where applicable.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in software quality engineering, test automation, or a related field.
- Strong background in software testing methodologies, test automation, and CI/CD practices.
- Hands-on experience with automation tools such as Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, JUnit, TestNG, or similar frameworks.
- Knowledge of programming/scripting languages (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript) for test automation development.
- Familiarity with performance testing tools (e.g., JMeter, Gatling, k6) and security testing best practices.
- Experience with test management and defect tracking tools (e.g., Jira, TestRail, Xray).
- Strong understanding of cloud-based testing environments and hardware integration testing strategies.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to improving software quality.
- Strong communication and leadership abilities, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
- Reside within the Detroit, Michigan area or nearby, with the ability to work in a hybrid environment and regularly commute to our Detroit office as needed.

Compensation Range
Compensation may vary depending on skills and experience.
Base Salary: $131,700-$184,100
