Education and Compliance Specialist

The Education and Compliance Specialist (ECS) will be responsible for partnering with providers and clinical operations staff to support the Regions Hospital and HealthPartners revenue cycles, with a focus on specialty coding for interventional cardiology and high tech imaging. The ECS understands and optimizes the revenue cycle for their specific sub service area, which requires a comprehensive understanding of the areas that can hinder optimal performance of revenue capture, including practice management issues such as registration, scheduling, and denial management, but also an in-depth understanding of Epic in the areas of charting tools, charge dropping, and charge review/charge router/follow-up work queues. 

The ECS also provides local support to providers and clinical staff for CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM coding systems, and acts as a liaison between the delivery sites and Care Systems Improvement (CSI) to support the Compliance Program and CSI educational activities around coding, billing, and compliance.

This position is eligible to work remotely following onsite training in Saint Paul, MN, with occasional onsite meetings depending on business needs. Employees must reside in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, or South Dakota, and have a reliable internet connection and a quiet place to work free from interruptions.

Work Schedule:

  • Monday-Friday days, remote in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, or South Dakota.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate degree and three years of coding experience OR bachelor’s degree and one year of coding experience.
  • Certified Professional Coder (i.e., CPC, COC, CIC) from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) OR Certified Coding Specialist (i.e., CCS, CCS-P, RHIA) from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), OR the ability to obtain one of these certifications within one year of hire.
  • Thorough understanding of the front and back end revenue cycle components in a physician and hospital setting.
  • Demonstrate and be able to apply CMS’s Correct Coding Initiative and WPS Medicare’s Medical Policy Index.

Additional Information:

This is a non-union 1.0 FTE (80 hours per pay period) day shift position working remotely in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, or South Dakota. The full salary range for this position is $26.66-$39.99 per hour, based on experience and internal equity.
