What You Will Do:

The ED Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Specialist will improve the overall quality, completeness and accuracy of clinical documentation. Will review clinical documentation and diagnostic results as appropriate to extract data for ED E/M Level Coding and Procedure CPT Coding, as well as Radiological procedures identified using ICD-10 CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, and the CPT Manual to ensure the highest level of confidentiality, excellent service, accuracy, and timeliness. This position is 100% remote.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Completes a daily assignment of ED accounts from Inpatient and Outpatient ED Visits and assignment of the appropriate E/M Level Charge and Procedure Charges.

• Assesses the adequacy of medical record documentation to ensure it supports the principal procedures that require coding.

• Educates staff members of the ED patient care teams on an ongoing basis and actively participates in departmental meetings when appropriate.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

What You Will Need:

• Graduate of a Nursing program approved by the Alabama Board of Nursing

• Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as an RN by the Alabama Board of Nursing

• Minimum 2-4 years prior relevant experience

• Minimum 2 years ED acute care hospital experience.

• HealthQuest knowledge and/or experience

• Critical thinking, analytical skills, and ability to resolve problems

• Current working knowledge of Official Coding Guidelines and Coding Clinics

• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and disease process

• Excellent communication skills, employing tact and effectiveness

• Ability to converse with physicians in sometimes difficult scenarios

• Strong typing and computer skills

The annual salary range for this position is $75,800.00-$113,600.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
