Disaster Survivor Program Services Coordinator I

Position Summary: 

IEM is looking for Full Time Individual Assistance Disaster Survivor Program Services Coordinator I to work with our Individual Assistance team in support of storm recovery efforts within the United States. These are not permanent placements, we are looking for candidates who are interested in working the extent of the current disaster response or on other similar/like projects if they arise resulting in a possible extension employment. Preference will be given to candidates who are available within 48 hours of receiving a formal offer of employment.   

Primary Location: 

• Candidates can originate from anywhere in the United States 
• Once hired you will deploy (travel) to client sites in the impacted area 
• You will work remotely when not deployed 
• All remote work environments require the ability to maintain minimum Internet speeds of 25 Mbps upload and 3 Mbps download, as well as a ping rate of 100 ms or less during working hours, regardless of the type and number of devices using your Internet connection. You must also have account privileges and access to your Internet service provider account during working hours for the purposes of maintaining the Internet connection, if needed. 

Travel Requirements: 

• This position will require work to be conducted onsite and may require work on weekends or in excess of 40 hours per week. Travel and other expenses are reimbursable in accordance with Federal Travel Regulations. 
• All interested candidates must be willing to work on site for the duration of each disaster assignment. Assignments typically may last up to 12 months with potential for extension. 

Essential Functions: 

• Meeting with disaster survivors, listening to their needs and connecting them with appropriate recovery resources.  
• Refer survivors to community organizations that support disaster housing recovery resources 
• Ensure the swift access of emergency shelter resources, aiding displaced individuals with essential services.  
• Work alongside government agencies and local community based and voluntary organizations to align resources and provide information to disaster survivors related to essential housing and support services for disaster survivors.  
• Work with diverse teams to relay survivor needs and communicate progress effectively.

Minimum Qualifications: 

• One or more (1+) years of FEMA or State/Federal Grants program experience. 
• Experience with at least one (1) major Disaster Recovery effort. 
• Disaster survivor assistance and program experience. 
• FEMA Trainings that need to be completed before hire or within 30 days after hire date: 
  1. ICS 100, 200, 700, 800
  2. IS 403 - Individual Assistance
  3. IS 405 - Mass Care/Emergency Assistance
• Ability and willingness to work remotely OR on site directly with disaster survivors for as long as needed by the mission.
• Understanding that this role is not a permanent position and will last the extent of the current disaster response or on other similar/like projects if they arise.

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree in emergency management / social work or a related field. 
• Master’s degree in relevant field or relevant professional certification or accreditation such as Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) 
• Experience working and supporting in an Emergency Operations Center.
• Experience in emergency management and disaster response, public health, and/or disaster recovery.  
• Experience deploying for response and recovery clients. 
• Experience managing project teams & writing proposals. 
• Professional Registration or Certification including Project Management Professional (PMP)
