The Opportunity

The North America Business Unit (NA BU) is a dynamic team spanning North America and working on a suite of thriving, long-standing impactful programs. The NA BU work includes programs like NASA’s Space Apps Challenge and NASA Space Apps Collective to a Wellbeing Economy Building initiative anchored by the Headstream program to a Climate Economy Building initiative anchored by the For Climate Tech programs. The NA BU also has a consulting practice where we connect with new clients, explore new problems, and build community and / or capacity as part of our work to build economies that are good for people and the planet. This dynamic team requires operational systems and an accompanying culture to not just deliver on current offerings but to evolve and build a more sustainable, healthy, and equitable future both within SecondMuse and in the world.

Working closely with the Senior Vice President and other senior leaders from the NA BU, as well as leads of other SecondMuse departments to build a culture of care and support and create operational efficiency and effectiveness that leads to greater impact and profitability. Work hours are within the US with occasional global meetings. Mostly virtual from the hiring location, but some travel may be required.

Essential Functions

  • Support the exceptional delivery of our programs to drive impact. Working closely with SVP to ensure seamless North America business operations. This role will: 
    • Work with Corporate Services to ensure regular NA BU level financial management and reporting to provide financial clarity and smart decision-making at the NA BU level
    • Oversee NA BU level utilization data and hiring processes to inform staffing decision-making
    • Liaison with SecondMuse Corporate Services to deliver, streamline, and improve processes and systems in service of the NA BU needs
    • Maintain critical data within the NA BU KPI Dashboard
    • Provide contracting oversight and support for the NA BU in coordination with SecondMuse Corporate Services
    • Prep and support SVP to execute monthly NA BU meetings 
    • Support, coordinate, and prep for Executive and Quarterly meetings as needed
    • Support the Director of Programs and Impact Manager to comply with company-wide and NA BU data and metric collection efforts
  • Oversee and execute the NA BU learning agenda and Ways of Working group which includes:
    • Setting  yearly goals, strategy and operational plan in coordination with SVP and Director of Programs
    • Manage and work with Capacity Development contractors to deliver the learning agenda including the yearly NA BU Summit
    • Coordinate with NA BU teammates and leadership to ensure learning agenda maps to needs and BU strategy
    • Work with Programs Director to ensure Kick Offs and Retros consistently happen across the NA BU and learnings are shared effectively and in a timely manner
    • Collaborate with the Global Head of HR to inform and ensure appropriate onboarding and training of all NA BU teammates
  • Support new program operations set up in collaboration with relevant teams (excluding consulting projects)
    • Partner on the Opportunity to Operations handoff to ensure seamless setup including contracts, staffing, and scheduling until a PM and team are onboarded
    • Work with relevant program teams to ensure seamless set up of new offerings
    • Support the hiring and onboarding of new teammates as needed
  • Manage Strategy and Codification processes:
    • Oversee the process to update the annual budget, strategy, KPIs and learning agendas in coordination with relevant Executive teammates (Operations and Strategy, Corporate Services, leadership of NA BU)
    • Project manage NA BU codification efforts in partnership with the Creative Director of NA BU

Requirements

  • 10 years of experience in communications, consulting, operations and / or organizational development
  • Proven excellent project management skills
  • Ability to effectively manage and coordinate people,  departments and contractors
  • Attention to detail and understanding of how precise operations can contribute to a culture of trust and excellence
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines
  • Strategic verbal and written communication skills
  • Responsive and customer-oriented with  problem-solving orientation
  • Passion for creating a clear, structured, and nourishing work culture
  • Curiosity about any of the following: economies that are good for people and the planet, the relational effect as it shows up within SecondMuse, participatory research, human-centered design and facilitation, organizational dynamics and psychology
