The Opportunity

Ulteig is excited to announce that we are seeking qualified candidates for the Director of Project Management position within the Power Lifeline Sector (LLS). 

The Director of Project Management, Power, is responsible for the Power Lifeline Sector (LLS) project management department and its associated P&L. The Director will lead project management delivery and project controls teams by providing direct leadership to managers and supervisors. The organization includes senior project managers, project managers, associate project managers, project controllers, project analysts, and their managers and supervisors. This organization will serve a wide range of clients in the Power market.

This includes department strategic direction, delivery, profitability, and overall department performance for portfolio, program, and project management within the Power LLS. The managers of Project management who support the Power LLS (Substation and Transmission and distribution (T&D) engineering departments) will report to this position. The position is a member of the Ulteig Leadership Team and reports to the GM & VP, Power. The Director of Project Management, Power, will ensure organizational alignment and clarity and successfully support and execute the department and LLS’s short—and long-term strategies, business plans, and strategic objectives

 

What You’ll Do

Department Performance and Strategic Leadership

  • Provides strategic direction to the PM department in alignment with the Power LLS and Ulteig’s Strategic Plan.
  • Leads the PM leadership team to set annual budgets and business targets based on the Power LLS Strategic Plan and Annual Operating Plan (AOP). This includes responsibility for the overall profitability of the department.
  • Provides leadership oversight to the project management department, holding them accountable for results, quality, and delivery expectations.
  • Ensures teams are appropriately resourced and committed to service quality and operational excellence.
  • Actively engages with and provides thought leadership to our clients, the Power LLS, and the communities we serve.
  • Partners closely and collaboratively with Power LLS Directors, Enterprise Operational Services (OES), and Shared Services leaders to ensure that strategies and actions align with the Power LLS.
  • Provides sponsorship and leadership as necessary for Strategic initiatives and other priorities.

People Leadership

  • Ensure the appropriate organizational structure and leaders are in place to deliver commercial and delivery excellence.
  • Collaborates across ‘first team’ of Business Unit leader peers across the Lifeline Sector.
  • Provides leadership support, development investments, and coaching to direct reports and ensures that Project Management leadership team members appropriately optimize performance and leadership development that supports succession of key positions.
  • Creates and distributes key messages with project management leaders and staff.
  • Ensures that key Ulteig and leadership communications are appropriately shared within the department.
  • Commits to a safe work environment for employees and stakeholders.
  • Acts as a role model to uphold Ulteig’s core Values and Ulteig leadership brand.
  • Builds an ownership culture that promotes inclusion, growth, career development, retention, and engagement.

Business Process

  • Establish guiding principles and high-level policies for the department in partnership with the PM COE and Power LLS Directors.
  • Works collaboratively with the PM COE to develop tools, systems, and processes to ensure effective management and leadership of client portfolios, programs, and projects.
  • Fosters an environment where quality, innovation, and continuous improvement are recognized and rewarded.
  • Ensures that effective risk management and change management activities are implemented to support the business.

 Scope  

  • Leads the project management staff consisting of senior project managers, project managers, associate project managers, project controllers, project analysts, and their managers and supervisors.
  • Provides direct management responsibility, strategic leadership, coordination of activities, and administrative oversight with operating budget responsibility.
  • Collaborate with the broader ULT members on executing the company’s short—and long-term strategies, business plans, and strategic initiatives.
  • Reports to the GM & VP, Power.

 

 

What We Expect from You

  • Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering or Business Administration preferred.
  • PMP certification from the Project Management Institute is preferred.
  • 10 years of experience required / 15+ years of experience preferred working in engineering consulting, critical infrastructure, technical services, program and or project management, or performing work similar in scope at other types of organizations.
  • Prior technical experience leading multi-disciplined Substation and Transmission projects in the Power market is preferred.
  • Strong business acumen and industry knowledge
  • At least five years leading a functional group, market, or multiple teams with demonstrated success in employee development, succession management, coaching, hiring, and performance management.
  • Strong business planning, management, client engagement, and organizational experience.
  • Demonstrated record of setting challenging goals and maintaining organizational accountability to achieve results.
  • Significant experience and knowledge in the power utility market preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% to meet with clients, partners, and employees.
  • Must have authorization to work permanently in the U.S.

Additional Opportunity Details:
Target Base Compensation Range for this role is $174,300 - $235,800
