We are currently seeking a Director of Standards in our Policy & Ratings Team. Our Policy & Ratings Team supports the development of building codes, product standards, and other policies and rating systems that assess energy and environmental performance metrics. The person selected to fill this position will leverage experience in policy development, team management, stakeholder engagement, and in-depth knowledge of energy efficient technologies to provide leadership over a business unit within the team. Experience in (one or more) lighting (including networked lighting controls), HVAC, water heating, envelope, water efficiency, demand response, distributed generation, data analytics, and related technology solutions is desired to help create large scale savings for our clients. Previous experience working on appliance efficiency standards development as well as compliance improvement, is required.

Energy Solutions has a remote-friendly work environment for staff throughout the United States. We also have offices in Oakland and Orange, California, as well as Portland, OR, Boston, MA, New York, and Chicago, IL for those who wish to work from one of our offices in a hybrid environment.
Daily responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Direct the development of both short-term and long-term strategies to optimize energy savings, load management potential, and GHG reductions through equitable state, national, and/or international appliance and equipment standards.
- Lead a team of staff participating in standards and/or test procedure development rulemakings at the United States Department of Energy (DOE), the California Energy Commission (CEC), or other standards rulemakings that further state and national decarbonization goals.
- Provide oversight in the development of standards proposals by prioritizing concepts, writing code language and analyzing the savings, costs, and other impacts of energy efficient and low carbon technologies in the context of appliances and equipment.
- Lead a team responsible for writing or reviewing reports on technical topics, such as Title 20 standards proposal reports, including energy savings analyses, cost-effectiveness analyses, and market impacts analyses
- Lead teams responsible for conducting research, primary data collection, and analyses to inform future potential standards and test procedures.
- Develop and deliver presentations on technical topics to a variety of audiences, including clients, government agency decision makers, engineers, and other stakeholders
- Develop strategic partnerships with industry stakeholders to ensure standards proposals and building performance standards are feasible, equitable, and have ample stakeholder support
- Participate and represent clients in the development of industry standards such as those developed by that Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI), International Code Council, (ICC) and ASHRAE 90.1 and other national model codes and standards
- Direct the development of compliance improvement strategies to support market actors in their efforts to adjust to evolving landscape of standards requirements.
- Oversee financial performance of a business unit and contribute to product development, market development and business development
Minimum qualifications:
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in an energy-related or policy-related discipline, including environmental, electrical or mechanical engineering, public policy or economics degrees
- A minimum of 12 years of work experience in a job related role with a minimum of 5 years in a supervisory and leadership capacity
- Experience in the development process of federal (DOE) standards, state standards, and industry led committees such as AHRI standards
- Excellent verbal communication skills, demonstrated ability to write reports, technical papers, and provide technical presentations to knowledgeable audiences
- Experience representing large organizations in public meetings, including government hearings
- Track record of success working in collaborative roles with diverse teams of partners and industry stakeholders
- Existing network of professional contacts that contribute to codes and standards development
- Strong client management and project management skills
- Proven track record of successful supervision or organizational leadership experience
- Demonstrated ability to provide thought leadership to achieve energy and climate goals
- Ability to work in a team-oriented collegial and collaborative, but fast-paced and dynamic environment at a growing company
Compensation is commensurate with experience within the pay bands of $145k - $180k/Annually
Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes a generous retirement package. Energy Solutions provides an excellent benefits package including medical, dental and vision insurance, other pre-tax contribution plans and an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
