Reporting to the Head of Human Resources, Kafene is looking for a Director of Human Resources, a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and management of HR strategies and policies within the organization. The Director will ensure that HR practices align with the overall business goals, focusing on employee engagement, performance management, talent acquisition, compliance, and organizational development.
Please note that only candidates based in NYC or the surrounding area will be considered for the role. The position requires a minimum of 4 days on-site at our Midtown Manhattan office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a trusted advisor to employees and management on HR-related issues, such as performance management, and conflict resolution.
  • Lead initiatives to improve organizational effectiveness, culture, and employee development.
  • Design and implement performance appraisal systems to monitor employee performance and development.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention.
  • Lead efforts to maintain a positive work environment and address employee concerns.
  • Oversee the development and management of competitive compensation and benefits programs to attract and retain top talent.
  • Ensure compensation structures are equitable, aligned with market trends, and compliant with relevant laws.
  • Manage employee benefits programs, including health, wellness, retirement, and other perks.
  • Collaborate with leadership to identify areas for improvement and implement training and development programs.
  • Develop recognition programs to reward top performers and encourage a high-performance culture.
  • Support leadership development programs and identify opportunities for employees' professional growth.
  • Manage succession planning to ensure leadership continuity and talent development.
  • Oversee HR systems and technology to ensure efficient management of employee data, payroll, and HR operations.
  • Use HR analytics to track key performance indicators and provide insights for improving HR strategies.
  • Oversee the recruitment process to ensure the organization attracts and hires top talent.
  • Develop and implement workforce planning strategies to ensure the right mix of skills and expertise.
  • Implement effective onboarding programs for new employees.

Core Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field. A Master’s degree in HR or Business Administration is a plus.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in human resources management, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR) is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of HR laws, best practices, and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and management.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency with HR software (e.g., HRIS, payroll systems) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Proactive, solution-oriented, and results-driven.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Earn a competitive base salary ranging from $140,000 to $160,000, depending on factors such as skills and experience (salary range is specific to the NYC area).
