Job Summary
Reporting directly to the Dean, the Director of Finance and Budget is responsible for the overall financial and fiscal operations of the law school. The position will develop and implement the budget and manage the day-to-day financial and HR functions of the law school.
Essential Functions
Administrative
- Manage and oversee the daily financial operations of the law school.
- Develop and implement internal standards and operating protocols to ensure compliance with university policies and administrative requirements.
- Oversee the financial control system to ensure timely and accurate operations.
Financial
- Coordinate financial planning for the law school, including budget development, management of financial viability, performance analysis, long-term financial forecasts, and budget presentation materials.
- Monitor and approve budgetary actions. Provide resource-based recommendations as needed to support strategic decision-making.
- Identify and creatively allocate resources for new initiatives, ensuring optimal support for emerging programs.
- Strategically rebalance and maximize various funding sources across programs and cost centers to maintain financial sustainability.
- Coordinate and disseminate a comprehensive range of financial information tailored to meet the needs of diverse stakeholders. This includes internal constituencies such as law school deans, faculty members, and student organization leaders, as well as external entities like the American Bar Association, U.S. News and World Report, the Association of American Law Schools, and other external reports as needed.
Managerial
- Coordinate and manage human resources processes and the personnel budget structure, overseeing all aspects of position budgets, financial planning for faculty hires, employment renewals, and staffing changes.
- Ensure adherence to budgetary constraints while facilitating effective recruitment, retention, and professional development of faculty and staff. Conduct regular analyses of the personnel budget and expenditures, strategically reallocating resources to maximize effectiveness and enhance overall performance.
- Oversee and coordinate budget allocations and financial transactions for the Student Bar Association (SBA), student organizations, and co-curricular programs. Ensure transparent and efficient management of funds by providing detailed financial reports and analysis as needed, facilitating informed decision-making, and promoting fiscal responsibility among student groups.
- Oversee the summer off-campus work-study program. Design the program structure and procedures in partnership with Drexel Central.
- Collaborate with colleagues across university administrative offices to promote and coordinate logistics for new initiatives, process improvements, and opportunities to enhance organizational efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting or related degree or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.

- 10 years of progressive experience in budgeting and planning
- Proficiency using Microsoft applications, especially Excel
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong collaborative interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships across campus with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and external constituents.
- Outstanding problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to handle pressure.
- Ability to make independent determinations about how to structure work to meet frequently changing priorities, schedules, and deadlines.
- Experience with higher education or not-for-profit accounting and financial systems preferred.

Additional Information
This position is classified as exempt, grade P. Compensation for this grade ranges from $129,850 to $194,770 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
