Job Description

We are currently seeking a Director of Data Engineering to transform the way that Lakeshore uses its data to make decisions. Reporting to the Vice President of IT, you will be the lead technical resource of the team. In this role, you will establish a solid foundation of data that will result in improved business efficiency and provide executives with situational awareness. The position also requires you to be the front line of contact with internal customers, therefore executive presence and a customer-first approach is critical. Your team will be a mix of local and offshore resources that work on large enterprise applications and small ad-hoc requests. Applicants should be highly skilled at coordinating timelines, cross-functional resources and priorities to ensure programs are delivered on time. The ideal candidate also possesses extensive experience in data engineering, cloud data warehousing, data architecture and business intelligence.

A day on the job looks like this:

  • End-to-end responsibility for the data collection, transformation, architecture, storage, governance and usage of Lakeshore data
  • Set the path to the future of a mature, scalable data environment
  • Build and govern standards for data and development
  • Lead the architecture of the data lake, data warehouse, data models, data marts and data fabric, including the selection of the tools and support partners
  • Work with ETL/ELT, Solutions Architecture and Infrastructure resources to define a scalable, fault-tolerant and near real-time set of data assets that will supply our business users with trustworthy and available data
  • Manage the process of external and internal data integrations into the data warehouse and BI platforms
  • Influence analytics super-users, BI developers, data engineers and eventually data scientists to be great data citizens
  • Improve data and analytics navigation—allowing the business to easily find the insights they need
  • Support the data environment and drive innovation efforts with creative data science solutions
  • Manage the vendors and negotiate renewal contracts
  • Participate in developing department business processes, roles and responsibilities, and overall team strategy
  • Recruit, train, develop and retain excellent talent

Qualifications

Got the skills and experience? Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • 8–10+ years of work experience with an advanced degree in an engineering/quantitative field such as mathematics, computer science or statistics
  • 5+ years of team management experience
  • Deep subject matter experience in data engineering, cloud data warehousing, data architecture and business intelligence (Snowflake, Redshift, SQL, AWS, Azure, Oracle, QlikView, Domo, BI Publisher, Tableau, GoodData)
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) disciplines such as machine learning, natural language processing, text analytics and associated development lifecycles
  • Highly skilled at coordinating timelines, cross-functional resources and priorities to deliver programs on time
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects at once and complete last-minute requests and quick turnarounds
  • Strong attention-to-detail skills with a proven ability to work quickly and accurately
  • Willingness to challenge the way things have been done in the past
  • Must be able to thrive in a fluid and changing environment
