Maxar Space Systems is seeking a dynamic Director of Cyber Engineering to lead our cybersecurity efforts across multiple domains, including space vehicle security, mission control centers, assembly, integration, and test (AIT), and corporate IT. This role can be based remotely in the US. This role will be critical in ensuring the cybersecurity posture of our satellite programs, reviewing program proposals, decomposing security requirements, and ensuring implementation and compliance with cybersecurity standards.
The Director of Cyber Engineering will be responsible for building and managing a high-performing team to support the organization’s security objectives. You will collaborate closely with key stakeholders across engineering, operations, and IT, while also coordinating closely with Maxar Intelligence on Cyber Operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management:
- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing cyber engineering team.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation within the team.
Cybersecurity Strategy & Execution:
- Oversee cybersecurity for the space vehicle lifecycle, mission control center, AIT, and corporate IT environments.
- Develop and implement strategies to safeguard the organization's assets and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).
- Coordinate with Maxar Intelligence to align cyber operations and strengthen organizational cybersecurity.
Program Review & Requirements Decomposition:
- Review satellite program proposals and evaluate cybersecurity risks and compliance.
- Decompose customer and regulatory cybersecurity requirements into actionable controls for each stage of development.
- Ensure security requirements are integrated from the design phase through to deployment and operations.
Compliance & Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with NIST 800-171, 800-53, CMMC and other applicable cybersecurity frameworks.
- Manage risk assessments, vulnerability management, and incident response plans to maintain strong security posture.
- Lead efforts to audit and remediate any gaps in compliance.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Partner with engineering, IT, and operations teams to integrate cybersecurity practices into processes and programs.
- Coordinate cybersecurity efforts across satellite systems, mission control, and IT systems, ensuring seamless communication between technical and operational teams.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation:
- Drive innovation in cybersecurity solutions to address emerging threats and vulnerabilities.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, new technologies, and regulatory changes, and apply this knowledge to enhance the organization’s cybersecurity capabilities.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in cybersecurity or Information Technology.
- Experience in leading teams and managing cybersecurity programs for mission-critical systems.
- Understanding of cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST 800-171, 800-53, RMF, and DFARS.
