This appointment is for a remote Administrative Faculty position, beginning June 2025. Main responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of clinical training in the Clinical Counseling Online program for student placements within various locales across the country. The DCT manages all external agency partnerships and helps students find clinical placements. The DCT also teaches graduate courses and oversees the curriculum of the pre-practicum and practicum course sequence. Academic rank, compensation levels, and eligibility for the Tenure track will be based on degrees earned and related experience.

Salary:

PLNU pays its faculty using a payscale based on experience and academic rank.  Faculty salaries using this scale for a 3-semester appointment range from $87,210 to $142,678. The actual salary will be based on the experience, rank, and appointment term of the candidate selected to fill this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaches graduate level courses in the MACC Online Program.  Three of those courses shall be related to practicum (PSY6095, PSY6096, PSY6097).

  • Develops curriculum for and hires/selects adjunct faculty to teach the practicum course sequence (PSY6095, PSY6096, PSY6097). Supports adjunct/supervisor faculty with training related issues.

  • Develops relationships with off-campus practicum training agencies and collects information on quality of training experiences.  

  • Develops and enlists new practicum agencies to meet the growing needs of the MACC Online program. This will include agencies located across California and in states that allow for practicum placements for online programs. 

  • Reviews and organizes contracts and affiliation agreements between the MACC program, the practicum training agency, and the student trainee.

  • Works directly with the practicum training agency supervisor to troubleshoot problems between the agency and the student trainee.

  • Actively participates in professional organizations that uphold the professional and educational goals of the MACC.

  • Serves on university faculty committees/working groups and performs other normal faculty duties

  • If eligible, various responsibilities aligned with the Tenure Track process.

Responsibilities breakdown to approximate:

50% Administrative tasks and duties, including departmental and university service

45% Course preparation, instruction, grading, and mentoring of students

5% Research responsibilities (Tenure-track only)

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D., Psy.D., DMFT, Ed.D  preferred; MA/MS accepted with evidence of specialized experience.

  • Advanced degree in psychology or a closely related field.  

  • Active California license with experience providing clinical services

  • Meets supervisor qualifications for and has experience supervising MFT/PCC trainees.  AAMFT approved supervisor or equivalent preferred. 

  • Experience with or evidence of potential in developing and enhancing practicum training programs

  • Evidence of a commitment to excellence in graduate teaching. Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching students from diverse backgrounds and a minimum of one year of teaching experience in higher education is preferred.

  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques appropriate to effective graduate-level teaching.  Online teaching experience preferred. 

  • Demonstrates potential to successfully interact with students, other educators, educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.

  • Evidence of Christian commitment, active church involvement, and commitment to the religious and educational goals of the university. In addition, faculty agree to live in agreement with PLNU’s Community Life Covenant

  • Demonstrates strong personal commitment to ethical therapeutic practice as delineated by the codes of their licensing body. 

  • Demonstrates commitment to cultural humility and multicultural competencies.

  • Thorough commitment to the concept of Christian liberal arts education and a desire to work in a Christian university. Supportive of the religious and educational goals of the university and its sponsoring denomination.

  • The job offer is contingent on the successful completion of a background check. PLNU  will consider qualified applicants, including those with criminal histories, in a manner consistent with state and local "Fair Chance" laws.

Preferred, not required:

  • Licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist or Professional Clinical Counselor in California

Selection Process:

Applicants will be expected to submit an application and corresponding documents. All applicants will be reviewed and evaluated. From this pool of applicants, a limited number will be selected and moved forward in the process. The interview process may include:

  • Phone/Zoom Interview

  • Dialogue with students and faculty in the Clinical Counseling program.

  • Lecture presented to faculty and students in the Clinical Counseling program.

  • Evidence of successful teaching, if applicable

  • Interview with the Academic unit leader

  • Interview with the Dean of the College

  • Interview with the Provost

  • Interview with the President of the University
