Zayo is seeking a Director, Network Engineering to provide management leadership and coordinate the daily work efforts of engineering staff and the team’s customer service and support processes. The Director, Network Engineering maintains a highly technical focus while ensuring high customer service expectations are met through the development and execution of key Service Management processes to meet key delivery performance metrics. Keeps upper management informed of schedules, priorities, and problems. Works with Implementations, Product Manager, National Sales Engineers, Field Engineering and Account Service Managers to ensure service delivery goes flawlessly. Develops policies and strategies to improve engineering services and support. Assists Head of Engineering with internal and external escalations. Assist with creating and managing CAPEX and OPEX budget for the entire technology department under the CTO.
Responsibilities:
Manage work load evaluation and delegation, project and goal direction, identifying training and career growth opportunities, performance management, enhance team collaboration and continuously develop the team for peak efficiency and operation.
Manages the day to day department staffing to ensure coverage matches the support and delivery schedule. Works with the Senior Engineers, Principal Engineers, Lead Engineer and Director of Engineering to identify gaps and fill them as needed. Approves PTO and scheduling changes for direct reports.
Performs employee one-on-one and yearly performance evaluations focusing on individual coaching and mentoring. Performs regular training assessments and identifies needs to develop training plans for individuals and the team. Develops and maintains a training regimen for the team based upon the needed skill set.
Assist in developing and maintaining an operational budget that allocates for continuing services across all nationwide markets. Collaborate with the CTO and other Technology managers or directors for new and emerging solutions in markets to identify capital expenditures. Implement operational and capex budgets to procure equipment and service needs.
Oversee operational functionality for the engineering team as it designs, implements and supports the education product portfolio. Collaborate across multiple departments to ensure consistency of design and solution throughout the delivery process. Assist in new product integration across the engineering and support teams. Develop and maintain processes as they relate to solution delivery, support and functionality.
Effectively collaborate across departments for product order design and complex solutions to ensure it meets Zayo support and delivery standards. Implement and develop policies to solidify organizational direction to bring about sustainable solutions.
Directs a team of Security focused engineers.
Directs the Architecture team including Manger of that team.
Is sought out for assistance with departmental and interdepartmental issues.
Ensures direct reports are trained and receive development to improve the skills and knowledge.
Impact directly supports ENA achievement of short term and long term success.
Identifies resources required to achieve departmental deliverables.
Set goals, give and receive feedback.
After-hours on-call for management escalation.
Travel as required throughout our service area.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or equivalent accepted. Business or other related technical discipline preferred.
Minimum of five (5) years in a network related role and three (3) years in a technology leadership role with preference for carrier class management involvement required.
Experience in a broad range of carrier networking products and tools with applied network management concepts pertaining to Cisco product suites, Aerohive product suites, Ruckus product suites, carrier Metro Ethernet, TDM architectures and data center establishment.
In-depth protocol knowledge such as TCP/IP, SIP, BGP and OSPF.
Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to communicate new concepts and drive change in process and behaviors.
Strong leadership skills with a focus on seeing others succeed and effectively motivating achievement.
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills in order to make complex decisions, effectively direct the team, and choose or change the appropriate course of action.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or technical procedures.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and effectively respond to questions from groups of managers and customers.
Must have excellent written and oral presentation skills.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Travel is required 10% of the time. A good driving record is required to maintain this position.
Base Salary Range: $137,600 - $196,550 USD/annually, commensurate with experience.
