Position summary:
Kilgore College seeks a visionary, enthusiastic and student-focused leader in positioning the Kilgore College Library for ongoing excellence in supporting student and faculty success. The Director is responsible for the efficient management and vision of the library, including budget, operations, supervision, and direction of library staff. This position will promote a positive work environment, communicate effectively with faculty, students and community members and identify ways to promote library goals and initiatives in keeping with the College’s strategic plan.
Position responsibilities:
- Supervises library staff, coordinates activities and absences, and arranges for appropriate training and technical support for faculty and students; provides communication to staff regarding actions and decisions of KC’s administration and Board of Trustees.
- Evaluate current services and set library policies, goals and objectives within the framework of the college’s mission.
- Prepares and recommends budget based on current needs and the requirements for effective operation.
- Plans and prepares for future innovation and submits proposals for enhancement of services based on objective needs analysis and use of statistics/projections.
- Ensures that required reports for federal and state agencies and internal needs are completed accurately and promptly.
- Responsible for electronic, print and non-print collection development.
- Ensures instruction in information literacy is available to students, faculty and staff, in formats suitable for class, group, operational or individual needs.
- Maintain information resources, and ensures appropriate preservation of essential data and records; trains KC faculty and staff in record retention based on Texas laws and policies.
- Maintains state-of-the-art knowledge in library science and operations; requests appropriate professional development as needed.
- Represent Kilgore College through community involvement and activities.
- Maintains communications and memberships as appropriate with professional associations.
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
- Master’s degree in library science or closely related field, such as Information Science.
- At least three years’ experience in library positions, preferably in higher education.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Supervisory experience.
- Must be able to work and lead in a typical office environment, including appropriate computer skills and skills in supervision of professional and clerical staff.

- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office and classroom environment.
- No or very limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
- No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
- Provide resources for safe operation of units. Create and support workplace safety.

- Compensation for this 12-month position is $65,657
