The Role
The Director, International Lead is responsible for overseeing the operations, compliance, and efficiency of the firm’s fully remote international workforce. This role ensures that all international team members are effectively integrated into company operations, compliant with local regulations, and supported with the necessary tools and processes to succeed. This role reports directly to the Bookkeeping & Accounting Group Lead.
Key Responsibilities:
Remote Workforce Operations & Integration
Oversee and optimize remote operations for international team members across multiple countries.
Develop and implement policies, workflows, and communication strategies to ensure seamless collaboration between international and domestic teams.
Lead resource planning and infrastructure support for remote international employees and contractors.
Ensure remote teams have access to the right technology, tools, and training to operate effectively within the firm’s ecosystem.
Foster a strong remote work culture, ensuring engagement and alignment across global teams.
Manage remote worker contracts, including establishing and terminating agreements.
Partner closely with the Head of People on recruitment & hiring, on-boarding, training, and on-going performance management of the international contractor base.
Year-End Reporting and Compliance
Create, manage, and oversee the process for year end tax reporting support to Burkland and external tax teams ensure accuracy and compliance.
Create, manage, and oversee the process for year end compliance reporting that falls under the Bookkeeping & Accounting Group service offerings, ensuring all necessary filings and documentation are completed in a timely manner.
Process Optimization, Strategic Growth, and Margin Optimization
Identify and implement best practices for managing global remote team members, ensuring smooth workflows and collaboration across all locations.
Drive process standardization, leveraging automation and technology to enhance efficiency.
Lead knowledge-sharing initiatives across international team locations to maintain consistency and expertise.
Work closely with leadership to develop and execute international expansion strategies, ensuring seamless onboarding and integration of new remote team members.
Build out new international team locations, assessing regional hiring needs and aligning workforce expansion with the Managing Director of Bookkeeping and Accounting in conducting margin evaluations across the team at a per client level, to assess opportunities for improvement on an individual client’s margin, and choosing subsets of clients to focus efforts on during regular intervals.
Demonstrate measurable success on margin improvements at a per client level through driving process improvements, monitoring & improving resource allocations, and directing team members on appropriate steps to take for margin improvement on clients who have been identified as needing margin improvement.
Maintain a limited Pod to experience what the overall team is experiencing, ensuring informed decision making and a hands-on understanding of challenges and opportunities.
About You:
Educational and Professional Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum 7 years of experience managing global remote teams, international workforce operations, or international expansion efforts.
Familiarity with international tax and labor laws and compliance requirements affecting remote workers.
Experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or financial services industries required.
Technical Proficiency:
Proficiency in financial and business systems, such as QuickBooks, G-Suite, tax compliance software, and remote collaboration tools.
Experience implementing process automation and leveraging technology to drive operational efficiency.
Ability to standardize and optimize workflows across geographically dispersed teams.
Proven ability to conduct margin analysis, improve resource allocation, and optimize costs at a per-client level.
Leadership and Team Management:
Strong leadership and people management skills, with experience leading and developing international teams. .
Ability to build, integrate, and scale international remote teams while maintaining a high-performance culture.
Skilled in resource planning, performance monitoring, and team engagement strategies.
Ability to collaborate with cross-functional leaders to drive operational and financial improvements.
Strategic and Operational Expertise:
Experience leading year-end tax and compliance reporting for entities and contractors.
Ability to develop and execute strategic plans for workforce expansion, compliance, and global operational efficiency.
Strong problem-solving skills and a data-driven approach to margin optimization and financial oversight.
Adept at managing contracts and agreements for international employees and contractors.
Communication and Collaboration:
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to engage diverse international teams.
Ability to develop and deliver clear policies, workflows, and training programs to ensure smooth collaboration.
Comfortable working across time zones and managing international relationships.
Compliance and Administrative Responsibilities:
Managing contracts and agreements for international employees and contractors.
Leading year-end tax and compliance reporting processes, ensuring timely and accurate filings.
Integrating new international teams and assessing regional hiring needs.

The base pay range target for the role described in this job description is $150,000 - $185,000 USD. Final offer amounts depend on multiple factors such as candidate experience and expertise, geographic location, total compensation, and market data. In addition, full-time regular positions are eligible for, 401(k), health benefits, and other benefits; some of these benefits may be available for part-time.
