About the team

Zillow Group Legal and Compliance is a group of skilled professionals who ensure that the company’s operations align with state and federal regulatory requirements as well the expectations of our customers, our third party business partners, and our senior leadership. The Data and IT Compliance (“DITC”) team guides Zillow's compliance with regulatory and industry security requirements and thereafter continuously gathers and assesses data on the institution’s compliance performance. This team is responsible for identifying compliance scope, crafting applicable controls, conducting compliance assessments, identifying and reporting deficiencies, and driving remediation of control failures. In addition, the DITC function leads internal and external compliance audits; issues compliance certifications; and reports compliance results to senior management. The team operates in close collaboration with information security, data, engineering and other tech teams across Zillow.

About the role

As Director, Information Governance, you will work with the Director of Data and IT Compliance and collaborate closely with the Chief Information Security Officer, the Manager of Data Governance, the Manager of eDiscovery, the Zillow Group Engineering and Development teams, and various IT and product leaders across the Zillow enterprise.

You will help create and then actively contribute as a senior member of Zillow’s interdisciplinary team to develop strategy, policies, standards and procedures, as well as provide technical consultation for Zillow’s information governance objectives. This includes existing and new programs to identify, classify, and manage the retention/destruction of company data, information and records throughout their lifecycles. By serving as leader and authority for policy development and process improvement, you will:

  • Conceive, establish, and thereafter drive adoption of information governance objectives by developing organizational and technical strategies to identify, classify and label Zillow’s data and records.
  • Collaborate to protect the company against the risks associated with mismanagement of our information assets.
  • Design and assist in the execution of a control framework to meet program objectives, and thereafter oversee the monitoring and testing of the program’s overall effectiveness.
  • Provide operational and technical consultation across Zillow to ensure the uniform adoption of information governance requirements at all levels of operations and tech development.
  • Participate in regular risk assessments, internal or external audits, and similar functions to gauge the program’s performance.
  • Serve as a liaison with the IT and Engineering organizations for information protection requirements, standards, and practices as it relates to the identification, classification, and retention/destruction of our data and records and related control structure.
