The Role
We are looking for an extraordinary Director, Global Workplace to join our team. During your time at Cockroach Labs you will:
- Oversee all aspects of global workplace operations, including real estate portfolio management, workplace team leadership, and vendor partnerships.
- Develop and execute a workplace vision that enhances office culture, fosters collaboration and optimizes hybrid work strategies.
- Lead and directly manage Facilities Site Managers and Receptionists.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with leadership, ensuring workplace services align with business priorities and local needs.
- Serve as the primary owner of office leases, negotiating key business terms that influence operational and financial performance of each location.
- Design and maintain industry-leading workspaces by integrating technology, thoughtful physical design, amenities, and services that attract talent, enhance productivity, and support employee well-being.
- Partner with finance to develop and manage workplace budgets, ensuring cost efficiency and compliance with forecasted expenses.
- Develop, promote, and implement measures to achieve cost effective improvements in workplace operations, and ensure compliance with rollout of policies and regulations.
- Ensure locations adhere to local compliance and support development of a proactive safety culture across business, including crisis management and response to incidents affecting employees and workplace operations.
The Expectations
In your first 30 days, you will transition into your role with the guidance and resources from our Workplace and Finance team. You will absorb the knowledge of our current real estate portfolio, site operations, vendor relationships, and more to better understand our scaling plan and our teams' needs as we expand, both locally and in other locations as well as at home.
In your first 60 days, you will be visiting our office locations outside of NYC. You will be working in partnership with the local teams to understand their needs and align those needs with the company’s priorities. You will continuously be monitoring support for our remote employees to ensure at-home productivity.
In your first 90 days, you will be integrated with the team, requiring little guidance in your day-to-day. Throughout your first three months, you will build trusted relationships with our employees and our executive team by communicating your workplace experience vision and making a direct impact on how we physically scale our workplace operations.
You Have
- 10+ years of experience in global workplace management, real estate, facilities, and operations within a high-growth environment.
- Proven leadership in managing distributed teams, hiring, performance management, and mentorship.
- Experience with budgeting, vendor management, forecasting, and lease negotiation.
- Experience creating in-office experiences that build community and enhance employee engagement.
- Knowledge of sustainability programs, OSHA, EH+S, FDA regulations, and global workplace compliance.
- Strong project management skills with attention to detail and sound judgment.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to develop procedures and maintenance plans.
- Strong expertise in workplace technologies and security systems.
