What you will be doing:

The Director, Clinical Pharmacy Program, Portfolio Advisor is a pharmacist who has dyad responsibility to lead the clinical pharmacy program at Premier as well as serve as the subject matter expert in the field to support the pharmacy program for Premier’s aggregation vertical.

The Director, Clinical Pharmacy Program, Portfolio Advisor is a pharmacist and subject matter expert with depth and breadth of knowledge of Premier’s pharmacy portfolio, clinical pharmacy and formulary initiatives, use of analytical tools in clinical decision making, drug shortage clinical management, pharmacy inflation analysis and budget forecasting, biosimilar adoption and payor implications, regulatory developments in pharmacy, Premier’s advocacy positions, including the 340B program. This individual with partner with field and pharmacy account executives within Premier and aggregation group leaders to support the objectives for aggregation groups, such as, depth of portfolio penetration, savings initiatives, and member engagement with the Premier pharmacy program.   

As the lead pharmacist for the Clinical Pharmacy Program, the Director will serve as the administrator of Premier’s pharmacy continuing education (CE) program for Premier member pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in line with standards set by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). This role is tasked with reaching and increasing member engagement/participation in CE programs by developing a calendar of quality programming.

Key Responsibilities

Aggregation Group Relationship Management– 50%

  • Understand the aggregation’s goals/objectives, strategies, and financials

    • Use aggregation group’s strategic plans to understand strategy, key objectives, and gaps to develop effective partnership approach

  • Co-lead member pharmacy quarterly business reviews aligning content to member’s strategic objectives and relevant subject matter expertise information

    • Cultivate knowledge on pharmacy data and analytics tools member is subscribed to and incorporate into meeting cadence to ensure ongoing benefit from tools

    • Incorporate pharmacy practice topics and developments as it pertains to member objectives and expansion of member/Premier partnership

    • Summarize data and overall value in visually appealing presentations to influence decision-making

  • Create and maintain a pharmacy supply chain and performance improvement plan to include:

    • Documenting overall member pharmacy goals & savings goals

    • Lead/collaborate to deliver on savings goals via a standardized approach

    • Develop and maintain tracking mechanism for agreed goals

    • Consistent review with aggregate member leadership

  • Generate leads for account growth to meet FY-Fiscal Year revenue targets

    • Using Member’s data, identify opportunities for performance improvement.

    • Deliver on supplier initiatives through collaboration with sourcing teams

    • Through relationships and knowledge of account, identify cross-sell and up-sell opportunities.

    • Maintain a thorough understanding of all the pharmacy revenue driving and value add products and services offered to the membership

    • Strategically position opportunities for advisory team and educate members on advisory offerings provided by Premier

  • Troubleshoot, triage, and escalate customer issues and follow through on resolution

  • Assist leadership as needed in positioning additional business opportunities.

  • Participate in the development of new and innovative approaches to maximize customer value/satisfaction and grow the business.

Clinical Pharmacy Program – 40%

  • Continuing education program development

    • Conduct an annual needs assessment member survey to gauge the educational interests of the membership

    • Recruit reputable speakers for the Teleconference, Antimicrobial Stewardship and Pharmacy Practice Forum series for a 6-month calendar of quality programs

    • Select and develop the pharmacy track for Premier’s Annual Breakthroughs Conference

    • Overseeing any fee-for service, co-sponsored CE programs for aggregation groups and other health systems as needed.

    • Own the ongoing accreditation process by ACPE for Premier to continue as a pharmacy CE provider.

    • Chair the quarterly Pharmacy Education Task Force, a member advisory body who provide feedback on CE programming

    • Chair the monthly Clinical Pharmacy Roundtable, a member networking forum for discussion of cost savings and formulary initiatives.

    • Own the development and compilation of periodic cost savings initiatives member survey and content development for Premier’s weekly clinical newsletter, eCLIPS.

    • Collaborate with GPO Technology and Data Solutions team to enable pharmacy inflationary forecasting insights and will contribute to thought leadership publications on pharmaceutical inflation and other topics as deemed appropriate. Other analytics to support and supplement clinical initiatives may also be added to the role.

    • Precept projects for pharmacy students / administrative residents on rotation

    • Identify need for and lead/contribute to white papers, position documents, resource materials beneficial to membership

    • Develop and be accountable for metrics; success is determined through the continuous growth of the program and ongoing member engagement with the resources and offerings provided.

Administrative – 10%

  • Update monitoring and tracking tools, administrative reports such as salesforce.com, time and expense reports.

  • Engage in process management to improve current processes as necessary

  • Facilitate routine team meetings and conference calls; attend meetings as needed

  • Participate in cross functional teams across Business units as requested

Work Experience:

Years of Applicable Experience - 7 or more years

Education:

Professional Medical Degree: Pharmacy (Required)

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, relationship management, strategic thinking and influence, acumen in clinical pharmacy, ability to analyze and distill data into an engaging narrative

Experience:

  • Knowledge of clinical and financial imperatives for health system pharmacy

  • Experience with contract operations and negotiations; aggregation group experience – a plus

  • Understanding of aggregation group structure, imperatives, culture, and partnership

  • Subject matter expertise of health system pharmacy practice, regulatory, and advocacy priorities

Education:

  • PharmD

  • Additional certifications – (e.g., board certification)

Physical Demands: Sedentary: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Premier’s compensation philosophy is to ensure that compensation is reasonable, equitable, and competitive in order to attract and retain talented and highly skilled employees. Premier’s internal salary range for this role is $99,000 - $185,000. Final salary is dependent upon several market factors including, but not limited to, departmental budgets, internal equity, education, unique skills/experience, and geographic location. Premier utilizes a wide-range salary structure to allow base salary flexibility within our ranges.
