Director, Clinical Data Science - Remote USA

Aura is on a mission to create a safer internet.  In a world where our lives are increasingly online, Aura's category-defining suite of intelligent digital safety products help millions of customers protect themselves against digital threats, and that number is growing rapidly.  This is an exciting phase at Aura, and our team of over 400 people worldwide is guided by a leadership slate that's successfully grown startups into multi-billion dollar organizations.

Come build with us!

About the Role:

Aura seeks to transform the way we approach and promote digital safety for youth. In a time where children and adolescents face a relentless barrage of online threats (eg., ubiquity of social media, cyberbullying, etc.), Aura is building next generation products and tools that make it easier for kids and their caregivers to monitor and quantify these threats. In addition, we will develop and deploy solutions to support kids and their parents in monitoring the potential negative mental health impact of the digital world.

To achieve these goals, Aura has already invested in hiring a new Chief Medical Officer who, along with a carefully selected team, will shape the strategy and vision for this new initiative. To help us kick off this transformation, we need a Director, Clinical Data Science to join our team.  In this role, you will report directly to the CMO and will work closely and collaboratively with members of the product, engineering, and data science teams to ensure that all tools are designed and implemented with a high level of clinically-informed rigor. You will also directly contribute to the development of new and innovative tools that will employ predictive modeling approaches to monitor digital behavior and ongoing mental wellness in users and their children, and serve as an important source of trusted clinical/medical information both internally and externally.  Finally, you’ll spend time managing and cultivating new and existing relationships with external clinical and scientific experts. Opportunities will exist for continued scientific activity in the form of conference presentations/abstracts and peer-reviewed publications.

 Day-to-Day:

  • Work directly with Aura data scientists to leverage data and apply sophisticated quantitative methods to build clinically relevant and scientifically validated tools that bring value to users and their families
  • Work directly with CMO and engineering teams to evaluate current and future data acquisition plans and needs
  • Establish the credibility of new and established products and tools through scientific publications/presentations
  • Engage and work with external advisors and clinical partners; build relationships; plan and lead advisory boards to inform product vision

What you bring to the table:

  • Clinical degree (PhD, MD, MD/PhD) in mental health from an accredited institution
  • 2-4 years experience in industry setting
  • Advanced analytical skills and experience; preferably with multivariate modeling; experience with ML/AI approaches for model development strongly preferred
  • Specific experience in health tech/product development and design
  • Track record conducting clinical research; experience with conference presentations/peer-reviewed publications
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Passion for transforming youth mental health

It would be great if you also had:

  • Specific experience working with/analyzing social media data related to mental health status
  • Specific training and experience in child/adolescent mental health
  • Current licensure/board certification
