The selected individual must reside in the respective territory:

Territory: Western United States

Ideal Candidate Location: Arizona, Texas, or Colorado are preferred but will consider other centralized locations within the western region.

Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates who reside more than 50 miles outside of the territory. 

This is a field based role and comes with a company vehicle (personal use, gas and maintenance included). Travel is a requirement of the role (20-25%)

Ideal Candidates will have:

- Leadership experience equivalent to or above the Director level

- Experience leading field based team

- Experience leading a team of 50+ associates

- 10+ years of Property Claims handling

- Litigation experience preferred

- Complex Claims experience preferred

As a Director, you'll drive claims performance for a property claims unit within a geographic territory. We'll count on you to assure compliance and successfully balance adjusted loss expense, loss cost and customer satisfaction.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages the claims processes consistently within property claims and a geographic location. Coordinates efforts with other claims functions such as quality assurance, claims legal, subrogation, fraud, service centers, claims technical and claims staff support.

  • Develops and implements new solutions and operational processes to ensure optimization and compliance with established company metrics, government standards and regulations.

  • Formulates, communicates and implements quality work standards. Monitors progress and resolves any identified issues. Suggests possible improvements in execution.

  • Ensures the best use of organization's resources by assisting with the development and implementation of the organization's strategic plans, projects and initiatives.

  • Coordinates cross-claims and cross-functional issues with Claims Directors for other lines of business and leaders. Handles select administrative functions.

  • Evaluates existing operational plans to ensure growth and feasibility and makes appropriate adjustments to assist organizational movement toward future success.

  • Formulates and coordinates corporate, organizational and regional plans and develops measurable long-range goals and objectives.

  • Delivers an outstanding customer service experience to all internal, external, current and prospective Nationwide customers.

  • Identifies, develops and retains associates who have the potential for or are ready to fill critical roles in the organization.

  • Supervises associate management, including performance, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow and organizational planning, hiring and placement and disciplinary actions.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Typically reports to Claims Associate Vice President. Direct and indirect reports include Claims Managers, Associate Claims Directors, and/or Claims Specialists.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate degree or post-graduate studies preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: State licensing where required. Successful completion of required/applicable claims certification training/classes.

Experience: Minimum ten years of experience in a claims operation including at least two years in claims management.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Requires extensive knowledge of best claims practices, technical claims operations, procedures and claims performance strategies and day-to-day claims operations. Extensive subject area knowledge desired. Excellent customer service skills to proactively identify and understand customer needs. Ability to effectively connect with individuals and groups and lead an internal staff. Demonstrated decision-making skills, including the ability to recognize, analyze and improve claims performance situations such as loss control, LAE, customer satisfaction, employee development and engagement. Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills vital for customer contact, consultation, presentations, project management and personnel management. Ability to make decisions, prioritize and set strategic directions. Ability to coordinate and take care of a variety of situations, discern problems and recommend/implement resolutions. Able to operate personal computer and knowledge of applicable software preferred.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the business unit executive and HR Business Partner.

Working Conditions: Field claims environment. Must be available to work catastrophes (CAT) requiring travel to CAT sites with multiple on-site responsibilities and/or for extended periods of time, including holidays and weekends. Some positions may require ability to operate an automobile and have a valid driver's license with a safe driving record.  Must be able to operate an automobile and have a valid driver's license with a safe driving record. Must be able to make physical inspection of accident scenes and property and/or property loss sites. Must be able to climb ladders, balance at various heights, stoop, and bend and/or crawl to inspect personal property and/or structures. Must be able to work out-of-doors in all types of weather.

Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. If a Sales job, Sales Incentives, based on performance goals are possible in addition to this range.

The national salary range for Director, Claims - Field Property : $107,000.00-$207,000.00

The expected starting salary range for Director, Claims - Field Property : $116,000.00 - $176,000.00
