Director, Actuarial Technology Lead

Summary

This position is a member of our Actuarial Valuation team with core responsibilities for overseeing and guiding IT support by leading and supervising the dedicated IT team responsible for Actuarial Valuation support and managing technology needs by identifying and addressing technology requirements.  The role also drives actuarial change management by facilitating lifecycle of actuarial change management initiatives.  Lastly this role also provides interdepartmental guidance through offering expert advice on processes and data-driven projects impacting the Actuarial function and fostering collaboration across departments.

 

Role and Responsibilities

  • Actuarial Project Management for Production Support and System Maintenance:
    • Oversee the actuarial change management lifecycle.
    • Prioritize and manage valuation requests and deployment schedules.
    • Coordinate testing and implementation of security patches, Operating System upgrades, and other company-wide technology initiatives related to Actuarial functions.
    • Monitor and track timely resolution of Actuarial data/system issues.
    • Develop and implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans, along with data retention policies/procedures for Actuarial functions.
  • Actuarial Change Management:
    • Collaborate with IT to implement and maintain code asset change management protocols.
    • Ensure segregation of environments (Dev vs. Prod) and formal production promotion protocols.
    • Incorporate SQL/DataBricks change management into the Actuarial Change Management process.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements related to Actuarial Change Management.
  • Actuarial Data Management
    • Partner with IT to develop and implement data quality controls for accurate and consistent data across systems and platforms.
    • Enhance the actuarial data warehouse to support analytics.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices for data management.
  • Process Automation:
    • Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation to enhance efficiency and accuracy in actuarial operations.
    • Provide strategic guidance on the direction of the actuarial platform, including evaluating new tools and technologies for automation.
  • Actuarial System/Data Architecture:
    • Collaborate with actuarial teams to understand data needs and develop solutions.
    • Design, develop, and maintain efficient and scalable actuarial data processing and analytics systems.
    • Centralize architecture design responsibilities across all LOBs.
  • Technology Liaison:
    • Serve as a bridge between actuarial functions and IT, ensuring effective communication and collaboration on technology initiatives.
    • Stay informed about IT sanctioned products and software, evaluating their impact on actuarial data processing and analytics.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience, with relevant certifications.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in the Life Insurance industry, consistently achieving notable results and advancements required.
  • Exceptional project management skills, adept at prioritizing and overseeing multiple concurrent projects to meet aggressive deadlines consistently.
  • Comprehensive understanding of business and technology aspects of information management, specializing in process automation and transformation.
  • Proficiency in database programming languages and data analysis tools, demonstrating strong technical capabilities.
  • Proven track record in designing, deploying, and maintaining actuarial and/or financial systems, databases, and analytical capabilities.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, with a logical approach to decision-making and effective resolution of complex issues.
  • Familiarity with a wide range of data management and Business Intelligence methodologies, keeping current with the latest tools and trends in the field.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, capable of effectively managing large-scale, complex implementation projects across diverse teams.
  • Established ability to build relationships and foster collaboration within cross-functional teams, enhancing overall project success.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly and professionally in both verbal and written forms.
  • Experience with Agile (Scrum) and CI/CD (Jenkins/GitHub/Sonar/Artifactory/Ansible) preferred

 

The base compensation range represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to qualifications, skills, competencies, location, and experience. The range listed is just one component of our total compensation package for employees.
